A few of you may know Jerry Wortman who raced Vintage Hydroplane here in Washington with the inboard flats. Jerry's wife found this boat in storage for decades (a 1953 Hallet with Ford Flathead) ready to run and that's exactly what he did. I think Jerry began racing at Moses Lake in 2004 and continued racing AOF until APBA opened their own vintage class. I dont think he's missed a race and these pictures are from the opener at Moses last weekend!
Jerry is at Harbor View Medical with 3rd degree burns on his ankles and hands and skin graphs have been successful. His comments on Vintage Hydroplane reflect his desire for everyone to wear protective gloves and socks! One fellow mentioned he would have used the fire extinguisher but it too was on fire!
Prayers all around for his speedy recovery. Jerry hails from Big Sky Montana by the way and flys commercial aircraft and 3 points!

      ?

Old fuel tank had ruptured the heat before is what the driver surmised. I dont really know, I wasnt there. The boat had recently had some work done to it, that's all I know and it never looked better cosmetically from the photos.
