It is with a heavy heart that I let everyone know that after twenty years of racing I am hanging up my life jacket. I have been racing in this sport since I was thirteen years old and have loved every minute of it. I have meet many wonderful people some I have known now since I started. I have also seen many of the pit kids grow up and become racers themselves. I had alot of help along the way foremost my dad, who always sacraficed for us to race all these years and my mother who held the fort down while we were gone. It has been a long ride but a good one. Six national championships and one record, I would say not to shabby. I have debated long and hard, but I have had some medical problems the past couple years and was attempting to come back but I must put my health forward for once. I love all you guys and consider us one big family, I am sure I will be at some of the races in the future as a spectator, or maybe putting the kids in a boat up the road, who knows. I will be putting up a post in the next few days of all the equipment I have for sale, everything will go I am only keeping my CSR from 1997 for a keepsake. Thanks again to all who helped me out all these years, I will truly miss you guys. If you want info on the equipment drop me an email at
kharrell76@yahoo.com or you can see it online shortly.

    Thanks Kevin Harrell

    Kevin,

It is with a very heavy heart that I read your post. You are one of the best competitors I've ever watched in this sport not to mention also one of the friendliest and most helpful. I will always owe so much to you and your Dad and Mom for all the help you and they have given me, especially after my own Dad passed away. I surely hope you'll be at as many races as you can, you will always be like family in my pits!!! This sport will lose a great champion, but I understand you must look after yourself and your own family too. I'll miss ya.

Best of everything to you my brother,

Kevin, I read your posting and was surprised. You have always been a class act and I have enjoyed your company at the races. I had to stop racing last year and it ain't easy! Keep us posted. Best of luck to you and say hello to your Dad for me. Jack

        Kevin,
It was Gentlemen like you who kept me going as Executive Director of AOF for so many years. I was the lucky one in watching you grow up and become a very safe competitent exciting driver. I have a big collage of racers from my many years and I am looking at you right now as I write--with a tear in my eye. Take care of that family and enjoy whatever you do. You had a good teacher in George, your Dad.
I will miss you, but hope our paths cross often in the future.
        Loveya

          Gee,
I've watched the Harrells and Augustines battle it out since at least 1960 (Dave and George) and it probably goes back further than that. It won't be the same without your family in the pits and on the course. Maybe the future will see the youngest Harrells and Augustines carrying on the flag.
          Take care of yourself.
          Pat

            Kevin,

Like what has been said in the previous post I must say it is going to be sad to see you hang up your helmet. I have known you ever since I was a little kid. We went to many local races, Florida races, and nationals together. You and your dad were and still are like family to my family and I. We had a lot of really good times at the races. Weather it was at Camden NC/ Elizabeth City eating the pig roast or in town at the local oyster house our dads were never far apart and neither were we. Or in Florida going to disney world for dinner after the races for the day. Then going to international drive and riding go-karts all night long, or getting kicked off the go-karts for dirty driving we always had a blast. You were like a big cousin of mine. Or how about all the nationals when our dads used to cook all the food and we pigged out for a week strait. You were defiantly a big part of my childhood and i'll never forget all the good racing and non-racing memories.

As for you racing and your equipment.... I know there is not much better yamato equipment in the country. You can talk to anyone who has ever raced against kevin he was top 3 at ever race. You guys always always always did your homework before ever coming to a race. If anyone wants some of the fastest C-stock and the Best C-mod motor in the country you better act fast because this equipment is TOP notch. Ever thing the George and Kevin own is well kept and FAST.. I hope to see you guys at some races soon. Kevin give your mom and dad my best and I hope all your health issues get cleared up soon..

Retire if you must, but don't stay away. We've had more then a few good laps together.

                Kevin,

Your family has been such an asset to the racing community. We will be sad to see you leave, but I want to see those boys of yours in boats in a few years. You know we will all be here when you come back! Thanks to you and your family to everything you have done for the races in the past. Hope to see you soon!

                  Kevin . . .

My concern is the health problem you mentioned. Yes, you were one of the best on the race course, and you proved that over and over, but you have made a choice to hang up the helmet and take care of yourself. This makes you a true champion.

Dude, It was always fun to watch you race, you were always one of the most competitive and hardest drivers on the course. Don't stay away any more than you must, you might find it a little more relaxing in our fantasy world here at the races without the boats. See you around.

                      Thanks

I really appreciate all the comments you guys have left me. This is alot harder than I ever thought it would be. I have been racing a long time, pretty much all my life. I have alot of good memories of alot of great people. Like Dom put in his post it was not only the fun on the course and at the race, we all have a good relationship away from the course also. I will never forget all the good times we have had, and I thank you all for being there and helping me through all these years, I love you all!!

                      Thanks Kevin
