  • Rookie ?'s I have before our 1st Race 2010

Ok, here we go I want to run in 2 classes. I have the option to run in 20SSH, CSH, OSY400 I believe. I have a Y-80. I want to know what is the average speed and weight of OSY? I know there is no weight limit but if my boat is heavy it would be kinda pointless right? Me and my gear weigh 403lbs. I will be testing May 1st so I should have a top speed to go off of by then. Next what is the common brand of oil and number of oz. per gallon for my Y-80 and my sons OMC A motor that he will be running in JSR? So any info form any of the great racers out there can give us would be greatly appreciated. We can't wait to meet as many people as we can this summer in Region 7. Thanks so much for everyone that i have talked to already..... lol

Welcome. Having a Y-80 your only legal to run 20-SSH and OSY. 80 isnt legal in CSH. If you had a 102 or 302 your legal in CSH. OSY has no weight limit. If you had a 102 or 302, you can run both CSH and 20SSH(w restrictor).

Oh i was told that i could run CSH with the Y-80 hmmm. I know there is no weight limit but I weigh in at 403 total and most of the other boats weigh say around 350 or something like that would I even be competitive against them cause of the weight diff. ? I guess it will all depend how fast I can go lol. What is the average speed of these classes?

        Weight

        Mark,

As far as it goes in 20SSH and CSH - you should be at a competitve weight level. Minimum weight in 20SSH is 400lbs, CSH is 440lbs. I don't know what to tell you regarding OSY weight, but I would have to imagine you'd be right on in that class as well.

Hope this helps some and welcome!

From what Ive seen as a rookie last year 20SSH is plenty competitive & very close to CSH speeds. You wont be disappointed. I think the real advantage CSH has is power out of turns, not so much more speed. As well as you need a certain amount of speed to be there its more about getting around the course in time than an attained top speed. Welcome aboard & Best of Luck
