  • J class question

What is the typical vertical transom height of a J runabout for the
"new" Merc? I'm going to start designing/building a hull for my son this year.

    thanks

    Chris,
Our transom height (following the angle along the transom) for the Mercury is 19" and for the OMC is 17 3/4".

Remember though that is for the AX height @ 1-3/8" below the bottom and the new J heights are 1-3/4".

Hope that helps. You are welcome to look at the boats we have this weekend if you are coming to Lake Wales.

The distance measured up the angle on the transom is totally irrevelant without knowing the transom angle. The verticle height is more significant. I have the figures that we build both Merc and OMC transoms at but the notebook is at the shop. PM me if you still need the #s tomorrow morning and I'll look them up.

We have an 18 & 20 degree transom angles. It was also not mentioned that kickout angle will also come into play.

Thanks for the info guys. Seeing your daughter and the Hearn kids at Ocoee
put my son and daughter of the edge! "I want to do that"!

            Chris,
If you make it to Lake Wales this weekend have the kids come over and talk to Becky, she would be happy to talk to them and show them the stuff.
