I moved to Mexico City (yes, as in way south of the border) about 2 years ago, and quickly got involved in the local boat racing scene. Mexico is a wonderful country with incredible race sites, good people, and a very well organized National Boating Federation (www.federacionmexicanademotonauticas.org.mx). However, the whole country ofers very limited classes:
1) A few classes for white water jet boats (Mexico is hosting the 2010 World Championship next week with teams from Canada, USA, New Zaeland, and others)
2) OPC T-1
3) OB2000 and OB3000 (Think of the 80's MOD V´s and the like)
4) No number 4!!!
As a former Mod VP driver and river racer, I know very little about small hydroplanes and runnabouts, however, I know enough to assert that Mexico needs one class for these boats. And I made it my goal to bring it down here.
Here´s where I need a ot of help:
1) I would like to start buying 6-10 entry-level rigs that are new to let drivers try them out the regular national races, to plant the seeds, promote the class and get new drivers involved in the sport.
2) The rigs need to be very affordable so people who do not race in the other (very expensive classes) give this option a chance.
3) River racing is very popular south of the border. Are therehulls that are better than others for this type of racing?
4) With whom do I need to get in touch to ge these boats and motors built?
5) I have to choose boats that can participate in two classes (like the restricted J class and then big brother/sister or mom/dad can race in the adult class).
6) Where do you recommend I start?
Thank you in advance for your help.
