  • Old Propeller magazines.....

My father and I had a discussion yesterday about what to do with old Propeller magazines. He was in the middle of his winter office clean up and was going through stacks of them. I told him that I have all of mine in boxes in my garage for safe keeping for some reason. (I haven't opened those boxes in years) Even though we all know they are great history of our sport, I would have to assume most of you are like us and just can't bear to throw them away.

Here are a few questions we thought up:
Do you personally have a good way of keeping them in good condition?
    What is your oldest one?
Does anyone know when the first edition was mailed out and what it looked like?
    What is your favorite issue?
    How many have you kept?

We thought this might be a perfect thread for us still shoveling snow and can only dream of a warm sunny day at the races.

    Collectors Item................

    Jeff
Since the APBA Board of Directors just voted that starting next year members will not be getting a 'hard copy' of the Rulebook and will have to go 'on-line' to retrive it, can the Propeller Magazine be far behind!!

Those old magazines may be a collectors item one day!! I have some old Rulebooks in the garage from my dad going back to the early 70's!!!

Ok............back to shoveling. We are getting more snow here in DC today! NICE.

      Good point Matt...

I have already read the next Propeller magazine online and I haven't received the hard copy yet.

I also cannot throw away those old rule books! Still have my first one from 1973!

I must also admit to quite a growing collection of the membership cards.

Maybe I need help? Maybe I am a hoarder??? LOL!

As far as Rule Books go, check with Craig Bowman, I think he told me once he had them all from sometime back in the 50's. He might have some insight as to Propeller Mags too.

          Keep Em'

My recommendation is to keep all that stuff. Forty years from now, if you have thrown it away, you'll wish you hadn't. Trust me, I know.

Look how cool it is to read the 'Boat Sport' and 'Speed and Spray' magazines from the boatsport.org web site.

          Best Regards To All.

            Old stuff

I keep mine cataloged in magazine files (plastic and cardboard) and they are fun to look at occasionally. I have some back into the 50's.

On the other hand ... to those who have no place to keep them or families that receive multiple copies ... I suggest bringing them to races and giving them away to fans.

If anyone has any dups or ones to get rid of to a good home, I would love to read them. For me the older the better. While going to outboard motor school for the USCG my room mates thought I was nuts when I found a used book store that had a bunch of old Rudder magazines from the 20's. I was in my glory reading those. Thanks, Syd

                  OLd propeller mags

Matt that was really funny when you said you had some of your Dad's from the 70. You were racing back then, I guess you are forgetting how old you are!!!
I have taken boxes of them to races and to the AOMCI meets to give away and people look at them and won't even bother to take them home, they say they are too new!

                    Magazines

Sure wish I had kept all my Propellers and the old NOA Rooster tails. In my moves, they started to disappear. What magazines I still have, I do enjoy reading them over.
