Looking for a dependable tach for a KG7 on a Furnal Flyer. I've heard good and bad about the reliabilty of the Tiny Tach. I just want it as a reference for prop testing.
Thanks
The reliability issue is because people often buy the wrong product and it does not work with their ignition system not because the product is defective in some way.
For the money, there is no product more accurate, easier to use and reliable than Tiny Tachs.
I strongly recommend the programmable model known as the Commercial Tiny Tach, it is more accurate than the Original Tiny-Tach, has a faster sample rate, a memory, and is useable with any ignition system which makes it easier to use on all your motors.

302SSH.....Putting the Stock back in Stock Outboard
The only drawback to a Tiny Tach is given in its name...tiny. I bought one (A Mercury branded one) when we started racing J Mercs back in 2000 and the battery just gave out this fall. If you mount it where you can see it well, they are great.
I had the commercial model and the display went away in short order I think due to the pounding in my recreational DSR. I recently bought another tach that is being sold on ebay manufactured in China. I couldn't get it to work on my Yamato. I put it in my Jeep instead. The only thing it is good for is to track engine hours. The refresh rate is terrible and the divisions are so large that it is worthless in a race boat. Fortunately it didn't cost much.
