  • Artie Lund

Got word this morning from Becky Hawkins that Artie Lund died early today from complications with cancer.

Don't know other details yet, but wanted to offer thoughts and prayers to the Lund family in their time of loss.

Artie's experience transcends several racing organizations and many years of going fast and turning left! He will be missed.

    Thoughts And Prayers

I have known the Lunds for some time now.

My thoughts and prayers are with them all in this time of sorrow. May he rest in peace.

      Artie Lund

So sorry to hear of his families and our loss. Artie was one of those "characters" that you only had to meet once and you never forgot!!!!

He was funny, smart, and one heck of a driver that took no prisoners, but was fair. I will always remember the Lone Star flag flying at Depue when the Texas contingent came to the Nationals and always with a hoot and a holler.

We are thinking of Arties family and hope that you know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

        Artie Lund

My favorite memory of Artie Lund was about 5 years ago at the NBRA nats. in Centrailia, IL. We needed one more SE Runabout to make a legal field for the nationals. He took Jim Homfeld's C-Mod Runabout and rut a 3 hole OMC on it and with no testing went out and beat everyone both heats.

          another story about Artie

First my sympathies to the Lund family on the loss of Artie. He was, as previously noted, a tough competitor. I had the pleasure to race against him in the late 60's and early 70's in then what was C Alky Hydro.

For whatever reason, Artie laid off from Alky racing for a year or so in I believe the early or mid 80's. Anyway he showed up at what I seem to remember was a USTS race at Alexandria where the PRO boats were running for the first time in several years. I noticed his trailer down by where the Judges stand was, and walked down to say "Hello" just about the time he was opening his trailer. He mentioned that he had not run any of the equipment for quite a while as he had been out of racing for a year or so. He was pulling stuff out of the trailer and wiping it off and talking all the time about he was looking forward to "getting the bugs out of his equipment" after a long layoff. Just about that time he removed the pipes for his Konigs from the trailer and sprayed some WD-40 or something in and on them. Immediately some of the largest south Texas cockroaches I had ever seen, about two or three inches long, came boiling out of the pipes where they had been making their home while the trailer sat idle during his racing layoff. He laughed like crazy and said "see, told you I was going to get the bugs out"!!

He was surely a character, and will be missed by racers in several categories.
