  • what boats are they (River hydro racers)?

I have just discovered the hydroplane races on the river, i think they are called or/ca river racers? what hydro and engine are they using? Maybe 44Merc and D boat? Any rate, what a blast that looks like. Road coarse for hydro's.

    Thanks!

They are using 14' hydro designed for the rough water. The motors are 44 cu. in. Mercs with stock porting. The fast guys can reach 80 mph. They don't accellerate very fast due to there size & weight.

      River Racers

We have seen them at our Kilo trials before. They run a stock 40H with pipes on a REALLY BIG (both length and width) hydro. I don't know much more, but they look like a hoot.

If anyone has any blueprints or patterns for one of those River hydro racers, i would love to see.

Anyone ever thought of a carbon bottom boat skin (maybe with kalvlar) for these smaller hydros?

Contact Larry Darnelle. from Grants Pass/Medford area. He is the builder of most of these boats and is the go to guy.

I'm finding that its not that I haven't wanted to put together a hydro in the past years but, its that the engines are so high priced that I cant afford to hardly think about it. Seems every time I take on an interest in a boat, its the engine that stops me.
I really like this River Racing style. Does anyone have a "D" stock Hydro engine thats sitting around and maybe needs work? I'm looking for cheap Merc 44 setup. I'm not afraid to knock the dust off it and polish it up.
