I was thinking that her essays on "The virtue of selfishness" definitely apply to Hydroracer threads

Although I will admit to not actually reading the book, just the Cliff notes. That is why I went to Eastern Michigan.....

      • The weight....I see it

I've about heard whining enough already about the 10 year old who only weighs 71 pounds and whose parents want him/her to win the Nats. I'm going to bat for the 13 or 14 year old who has been racing for 4 or 5 years who would like to win the Nats but doesn't stand a chance against the undernourished 11 year old in a paper-bag boat that weighs in at 298! The average 13 or 14 year old fed on a healthy diet at Subway is going to weigh 118 to 135 plus. No way is he/she going to rock 298.

So, here's my solution: Make the legal JH / JR weight 345, and keep AX where it is. That way, the new 9 yr old J piloto will need to run a heavier boat.. which, (as history knows) will get on plane. Notice I did not say add lead, weight, etc, just run a heavier / bigger / safer, boat.

Put yourself in the pants (ie, don't try that.. use your imagination!!) of the 13/14 year old I mentioned. How would you like to be in his/her kevlars and getting waxed every weekend by some punky 9/10 year old in their first year of racing. THINK about that will ya!?!? That's the kind of scenario which is discouraging the 13/14 yr old running J. No wonder they can't wait to run AX.

Lower the age in AXSH to 11 ( like K pro) and let the fat and the skinny kids run, without special or pounds of lead ,and keep the compitition close. What actually works and the USA has proved for it's entire existence, is a nice blend of both socialism AND capitalism.

13 and 14 year olds? They can run AXS and A (hell you can run 20 and OSY)... Im sorry but thats exactly what we learned from trying J even when I was 12 (too heavy). Everyone on this thread is trying to work some angle to favor their particular driver... When you say that heavier boats get on plane easier, what proof do you have? If anything I'd say a lighter J boat is easier to get on plane considering you have very low horsepower and junk propellers.
