I thought before we go to Seatle it might be nice to here how our engine supply looks going forward. Yamato - Rick Montoya, Tahatsu - Bass Machines, Mercury - Wheeler Marine & Dave Scott, Sidewinder - Sled or Ron. Knowing what the available numbers look like will help the SORC make some real sound decisions on the future of Stock Outboarding. If anyone involved in any of the engine manufacturing has info as I may have missed on who should report feel free to chime in. I know folks like George Stillwell have put together engines for our new members from new and used parts. Another one is Gary Pond he has like new equipment in just about every class. This also will let Santa Claus know who to bring a new motor for under the christmas tree. Mikey

Sidewinder 20
Over the years, I guess I have become a motor snob. I am into PRO racing and realy enjoy high tech engines from around the world. I enjoy watching good hard racing in the Stock classes at the local races, but the motors do nothing for me.
I had the chance to watch Worm test the new 20 Sidewinder at Lock Haven and was impressed. At Kingston, Mikey and I were out in the patrol boat in the first turn in 25ssr. Worm ran a small roll up boat against the bigger restricted Yamatos and just put a hurting on them. The motor ran flawlessly.
I am impressed. Ron and Ed, you guys should be proud of these motors. Ya done good.

To APBA - SORC 12-24-09
On behalf of the Yamato Motor Co. LTD. I would like to briefly report on the Model - 80, 102 & 302 motors and replacement parts.
Yamato 80: Discontinued production in Sept. of 1979. 1,000 units were imported to the US.
Newly Available Model 80 Parts;
Crank pin – Two options; (1) An updated crank pin that uses the model 302 big end rod bearing, or (2) an aftermarket crank pins and bearing that are the same as the originals are available.
Pistons – After market standard & o/s size pistons are available
Coil – Secondary - Direct fit aftermarket replacement coils are available.
Discontinued Model 80 Parts;
Megaphone holder
14mm Cylinder heads
Carburetor intake funnel – a fiberglass reproduction could be manufactured.
Megaphone – An aftermarket replacement is available.
Cylinder Sleeve – New OEM cylinder blocks, with sleeves and studs are available. Aftermarket sleeves are available.
Yamato 102: Discontinued production in Sept. 1985. 850 units imported to the US.
Newly Available Model 102 Parts;

Gear Case Housing & Cone – SORC approved the use of the model 302 gear case as a replacement.
Ignition Coil – SORC has approved the use of externally mounted secondary coils. At this point we have not found a replacement for the primary coil, however I have heard of 2 cases where the racer has successfully rewound the primary coil.
Updated Part:
Carburetor Intake Funnel – Has been updated from aluminum to plastic.
Yamato 302: Still currently in production. No expectations of stopping production at this time.
Model 302 Parts – All parts are available. Currently a $30,000 parts order has been placed, Yamato Motor Co has received payment and is currently checking stock and estimated time of delivery. I would expect to receive most of the order by the end of January 2010.
Update on Sales – RPM Marine has 62 model 302 motors in stock.. During the 2009 fiscal year 9 complete motors were sold.
Yamato 4 Stroke: Yamato is using the motor at one of their racecourses for one race per day for the purpose of testing and refining the motor. No expected production date has been announced.
General: Yamato Motor Co. LTD is pleased to see that the efforts of the SORC with the CSH, CSR, 20SSH & 25SSR classes have resulted in a good quantity of participants. We hope that the SORC will continue this trend in the future and that the Yamato Motor Co. LTD can continue to assist with Stock Outboard’s racing needs.

Manufacturers update - Bass Machines Tohatsu

Parts and technical assistance is available: Questions regarding availability of Towers, lower units, and transom brackets for the Bass Machines M50D2 Tohatsu, as well as other engine applications should be addressed to Sid Bass. The tower and gearfoot currently being supplied for the 50 Tohatsu incorporates a water pump utilizing the readily available Merc 500 impeller. The lower unit is available in 1 to 1, overdrive, or underdrive gear ratios. The gearfoot is dynamic in design, has proven reliability, is easily disassembled in the event a propeller needs to be pressed off the shaft due to a sheared pin.
