Samborondón is a suburb of Guayaquil and one of the cantons of Guayas province in Ecuador. It is one of the most exclusive residential and entertainment districts in Ecuador, boasting many Gated Communities (urbanizaciones cerradas) and several retail developments are located in the suburb. The proximity to the country's largest city, Guayaquil (merely crossing a bridge), means that many of its residents work in there.

Regata Guayaquil- Vinces 2009

One more from their 2009 summer festival. These racers are super stars in the eyes of their public.

Tom- Great postings. Believe it or not, it was before my time when outboard racers were held in high esteam in our country where it was said that the public knew outboarder names before they could name a baseball player.

It looks like they're running many of the same boats from the mid 80's American excursion, (Dewalds, Austin, Humphrey, Sweeney, etc). Has anyone gone to Ecuador to race since then?

There's a lot of good information in this thread from BRF:

In Ecuador they have just 2 classes, Racing & Standard.
The rules are real open.
Runabouts, most are copies of '80 Austins, min. weight 410#

In the racing class they use Yamato 302s, with megapones. The carb is from a newer Merucury, I don't know the model , but works well with a fuel pump. They also have a couple Mercuy 25XS running, but they have replaced the Mercury foot with the OMC A foot.

In their Standard class, it is any 25 hp outbord with a stanard gear shift unit.
Most are 24 cu in Mercurys and some 31 cu in OMCs.

I enjoyed the simple fact that they were having as much fun as I do while racing boats!

Seems like a cool/inexspensive way to run MOD!!!

Would be interest'n to know the Merc carb (size) they use on the 302........

If any of you can go to Ecuador, do so. We, Ric Montoya, Bob Williams & I had a great time in '06.
The Guayaquil to Vinces race is a 60 mile marathon the last Sunday of March.
We stayed in Guayquil, but I think Vinces would be better. That is where most of the racers are from. There is a hotel for about $8 a night. Even if you don't get a chance to race, go for the party.
Items to take with you that they need:
o/s 302 pistons & rings.
Through deck throttles
Throttle cable.

Check out their web site http://www.vincesnautico.freeservers.com/
