    700cch record

Sean went out, and upped the record to 126.267 last I heard. The tide is changing as of right now and water conditions are deteriorating.

I heard Sean McKean set the 0-700 record at 130 and some change. I think he was using the standard oval type setup on a Pugh/VRP combo........132+ one way....thats smokin'

              How does it compare

Is there a speed record in 700 hydro with the U.I.M. and how does Seans 131 compare ?

Can someone from the west explain to this Ohio guy how the tides influence the record runs there? Does the water lower or is there a current that effects the speeds?
                    Thanks in advance, Jeff

                      Jeff

Devil's Lake or D-Lake is in Lincoln City, Oregon. At the west end of the lake, the D River is the lake's outlet - it flows from the lake, under Highway 101, and literally right on to the beach and in to the Pacific Ocean. A sign on the highway says that the D-River is the world's shortest river. You get the picture - the ocean is only a few hundred yards from the lake. When the tide change comes, the wind most often starts to blow - and when the wind blows, its not a great time to be running kilo set ups. Its a very cool spot - you all should come and watch the kilos sometime and enjoy the beautiful Oregon coast. Kilo set ups are most times like running a totally different class - often a different boat from the competition boat, different set ups and different props from those used in competition.

Thanks Mark, maybe someday we will have a rig running good enough to make the trip.

I also heard Sean set this faster than a laydown or kneeler was. Pro has a 90% rule with Capsules I beleive. I might be off on the percentage. But even without the calculation, he beat the old record. Did I hear this right ?

Never the less, that is pretty quick.

Corey and J DUB beat Sean's existing 700cch Capsule record, then Sean upped it again the same day. The 1100cch record Sean broke was originally an open cockpit record which he broke with the 95% rule. Then he upped that record again the same weekend. When he upped it from when he broke it, that was over the open cockpit record without the 95% rule. Bottom line, he would have broke it without the 95% rule on his second try.

                            Make sense?

Yes the records for 500,700,1100 will only climb from here
as the newer boats are designed to take the speed and old laydowns will not--comp records might be a little longer to see new records but it will happen

I'll add a quick pdf graphic to show what record setters were "wearing". It's a page from the club newsletter dialed a bit for clarity.

Also, Mark Sharley's pictures are now up on NWSpeedshots:
