For those who wanted to make it and didn't, you missed a beautiful (yet chilly in the evening) weekend. Friday for testing was pretty windy down the front stretch, hoping that this would not be the followup for the weekend. Most of the ladies in the pits went to Margaret's house (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!) enjoyed giggles and stories of silly things their men and kids have done to them. Then we went off to the wineries. By the time we hit the second one, we were so glad that Margarets mother was the designated driver! I believe there were 9 of us, piling out of a minivan. It looked like something you see in the circus with the clowns piling out of a car! The plan was to go for a tour of the islands, but the wind had other ideas on the St. Lawerence Seaway!
Off the top of my head (and I failed to get results from Harriet, sorry!) there were 12- 20SSH. Wow, was that cool to see coming for the start. I have a great wide angle shot of that I will post later today. And all of them made it without mishap. Great driving..... Eliminations were in CSH. Saturday's incident's were Brant Latter went in the cool water in 20ssh, just after Wayne his brother in CSH and in the very same spot entering turn two. Brant and boat were fine. Wayne was fine. Wayne's boat was in several barely floatable pieces. The rescue called into shore and asked the boat is not floatable, do you want us to try and save anything? The motor, the motor! They did get the boat to shore and as soon as momentum stopped she started to sink! Talking to Wayne later he said he did not remember much only when he went to signal he was ok, he was still holding on to his steering wheel.
Game is on per Brian Rossman. Rossman and Brewster are in the points chase for 25SSH. Brian winning Saturday and Jeff winning on Sunday. Looks like one to watch as the season winds down. Taunts of messages are now being wrote on the back of their helmets.....Brian wrote a message to Jeff on Saturday and on Sunday, Jeff appeared with his own message to Brian. All in good fun though as the two have the utmost respect for each other.
Saturday dinner in the pits was awesome, we gathered around the fire afterwards and PeeWee Bellanger (sp?) from Canada became the entertainment. The fire was so toasty and those of us in tents were complaining we did not want to leave the warmth of the fire. So Pee Wee then began wrapping hot stones in cardboard and telling us to take them and put it in our sleeping bags to keep us warm. Brian Rossman got one that was a little to hot. He took one, put it in his sleeping bag in "Sandy's SUV" and came back for one more beer before turning in to a toasty sleeping bag. He left and a few minutes later he came running back. The rock was still too warm and had burned a hole in his sleeping bag. Another beer at the fire, and we would have been standing around his car for warmth!
So many new racers were in attendance, Trora members; Jesse Ward, Dana Holt, Jerry Brewster, Jon Brewster and Jonathan Brewster showed up Friday after midnight. The returning crews of Latters, Websters, Utmans and Pee Wee from Canada, Bob Howe (the new fast guy in 25ssh), Steve Noury, Alex P from Maine, Billy Allen, Abby Pond, Earl, Lori Brown, Brian Rossman, Scott Clark, Scott Reed, and many more! It was a great time. The weather Saturday was getting better than Friday, Sunday was just perfect.
Thank you to the race committee for a great time by all!
If any of you who read this and has not been, if you get to go, make sure you look up in the sky at night. The stars are totally awesome. So many it looks like you could reach out and touch one.
A huge thank you to Ron Waterson for your help! We had our girls bathed and in bed by 10 pm!
I will post pics later today, just wanted to give an update before I pour more information into my brain today at school. I did not want to forget anything.
