  • Tauton This Weekend

Well the weather was not the greatest today with lots of rain, but it did not dampen the spirit in the pits. WOW! What a great bunch of people are in Region One. The race today had no mishaps, drag boat racing, and a great turnout of stock & modified outboarders.
Here are a count of some of the classes 10 - 25 SSH's, 6 DSH's 6 - OSY's and sorry to say, not sure of the count but a large turnout of 20's. I will post pictures when we get home. Leaving after racing tomorrow and driving all night for class and work on Monday.

Hey Billy Allen your correct, " I love New England". I did get some great Clam Chowder tonight at the Akerstroms!

    To add to Chrisitne's post....

    7 - 20SSH's and 6 - CSR's. Once again "Green Flag" Giles ran a swift program.

11- 25SSH's and two locals did not make it! Brewster continues his march to the 2US winning the class and the coveted Taunton Cup. Rossman, where were you?

Chrisitine, you're in New England, it is CHOWDA!

Sorry my dad and I couldnt make it, sounds like it went great. I was at a VW event in Standish near our race site and my dad had some plans of his own.

We will definitely be at Kingston!

Thank You Jason Thompson and 25SSH Drivers

Just wanted to thank Jason Thompson and the other patrol boat drivers for doing an outstanding job of protecting the driver in the water in the first turn (me). The first turn patrol boat crew was quickly on the scene and put the patrol boat between me and oncoming traffic.

I also want to thank the 8 or 9 25SSH drivers that avoided me in the turn. Especially Steve Noury who made an excellent effort and passed clear of me.

Thank you all.. I had a great time and SSOA you guys put on a great race. Now Im going to see if I can get Alyssa to give me a massage and feel sorry for me.

            Taunton-a great time!!

For those of you who missed this weekend at Taunton, there's going to be a next time... so pay attention. There is plenty of grassy area to tent, rest rooms are clean, the beach launch area is plenty big enough to stage in and unless yer cart has American Flyer wagon wheels.... it won't cause you to have a coronary! Plenty of room on the race course too. There's a great playground area with all the latest stuff for the kids and there's plenty of parking and grassy areas. You can have a real camp fire (but bring yer own wood). And if you don't wanna tent-it.. the're are hotels (95 to 79 bucks) about a mile away. There's also "Joes Diner" run by some Portugese-Americans a couple miles up the road where you can get good food cheap that won't cause you to spend the day on 'the dumpah' (as they call it up he-ahh in MAINE). Of course the local folks at the race-site have plenty of good food and coffee at decent prices all day long too. Best of all, these people don't care where yer from, afterall, they made peace (after a bit) with the Injuns ....errrr ahhhh native Americans... You do remember the Pilgrims, right?? Okay! I mean the Brewsters left with their scalps in tact.. Abby Pond was still looking good while hauling her boat onto the cart.. No kids disappeared... that I know of. Yup... we had a real good time. Hope you'll read this and decide to come to TAUNTON next year. This year however... if you want to experience some more New England hospitality (at least in boat racing circles)... You might ought to consider KINGSTON NH Sept 26-27. Just a couple miles off interstate 95. We'll keep the light on for ya.

What a beautiful race site. For those who decided the weather was not favorable, missed a good one. To the race committee, Region 1, park rangers, and all the wonderful New Englanders who were in attendance. Thank you for a wonderfully exhausting weekend. Sunday after racing we were packed and on the road again exactly 48 hours later to return home. Whew! but oh so much fun. Here are some pics of the weekend.

On Saturday Jeff was offered his 1st DSH ride this weekend from Alan Akerstrom. I think I am going to regret this, he is still talking about that ride! Thanks Alan, Thanks alot.

                  pics from the pits

Friendships made that last a life time. Austin made two new friends this weekend. Manny Diaz's daughter Courtney on the left and Colleen Rosado's daughter Sammi on the right. Yes, racing is a big part of this sport. Personally I think the people you meet and form these friendships are truly what this sport is all about! (Please excuse any misspelling of names)

The last pic is of Mr. Steve Noury in racing form. Not many get to see this. He is usually running all over the race site doing all the other things to get the race on for the rest of us. Thank you for all your hard work!

                          wow!

South Shore just keep's on getting better! What a great club you all have and what an honor it was to win your beautiful trophy. It is in a place of honor in our living room.
Hat's off to my fellow and lady competitor's in 25ssh. All drove like true professionals, with no boats broken. Ok, maybe a wet driver and a couple lost cowlings....but I thought all did a great job of driving on a smaller sized course. Especially on Saturday in the poor visability!
Thanks so much to those that work so hard in this club all day long...and you know who you are! Really appreciated the opportunity to be able to get the girls home early as possible for school.
It was wonderful to see some old friends and make new......just can't wait until our next get together in Kingston. We will bring our coats, hats and mittens this time, just in case!

p.s. Bob Van please email me so I can help you! (christinenjeff@yahoo.com)
