I tested the 15 cu. in. Sidewinder at Lockhaven that Greg Lyons has raced this season . I put it on my BSH with my best motor and prop and had speeds within 1-1 1/2 mph off my Hot Rod, I will say that they are getting close to parity with each other and with more testing of carburation and jet settings it will be in line as speed as the Hot Rod. The handiling with the bigger sidewinder gear foot was not a problem in speed and in the corners it was stable and stedy. In my opinion , it is just a matter of the right combination of boat , motor , propeller and setup that will make these two engines even with each other. I want to thank Sled and Racing Outboards LLC. for the oppertunity to compare these two engines in trying to grow a class that is the future of small outboard racing engines.
20 cu inch. Sidewinder Testing
I also tested the 20 Cu Inch. Sidewinder on my 20SSH B&H in Lockhaven and from start to finish we improved in speed and learned a great deal of carburation and powerjet settings that improved performance of the motor. We went through a few different propellers and found a 20 cu inch . BSR wheel that ran the best. Our speeds were about 62 mph and we were fat on the cc's with room to tighten them up for better performance. I know with more adjustments in carb and jet settings it will be in the playing field with the Yamato. I liked the way the boat handled with the lighter motor and it had good response on Acceleration and top end speed. Once again we did not have a great selection of propellers to test and the BSR wheel was what gave us the best speed. Once Sled gets the right combination , this motor is going to be a great ride for what classes it will be in.
