Would be nice to think so but I have seen it on large billboards around here in Montana. Sorry, would love to give you the credit

      Billboards

Speaking of billboards, that's how my boat got its name. "Your Ad Here" is tongue-in-cheek. Since I seem to spend more time in the back of the back than the front of the pack I realize there won't be a line forming to sponsor me.

I bought my boat used and when I asked the seller over the phone what color it was he answered, and I quote, "The same color as it came from the factory."

So on my 8 hour drive to New York state I pictured raw, blackish, carbon fiber with a scruffy exterior. And in my musings I decided to leave it unpainted and name it "Ugly Stick". As in "it got beat by the ugly stick." And I was creating graphics in my mind on the long drive up.

Except when I arrived at the seller's house I glanced in his open trailer and glanced in his open garage and I didn't see the boat because I was looking for a black one.

So on the long drive back I had to rethink my plan. What am I going to do with an all white boat with no graphics on it? And I decided to copy an all white billboard that I saw on my way through New York state that had only three simple words.

I know some racers think it's silly to name a race boat and spend money on graphics. But for me it's part of the fun. And spectators love it. I couldn't tell you how many conversations were started when I was standing next to "Never Say Never Again", the CSR I ran when I got back into racing after a 28 year layoff.

Our boats have names too. the 5U is "The Red Neck Canoe", the 15U is "The Bucket List", it came after Mike's heart attack and decision to go racing because he had always wanted too, the 55U is Blue Thunder although April and I think it should be the Blue Banana! I don't know what this year's edition will be called.

I like it ! Boat Racing should be about having a good time with friends !

I have been away from it for 23 years, went to Eatonville, WA. and re-caught the "bug "!

The "bug" has only one known cure! You will have to join us with another a boat.
