  • OMC 15 Stock Fishing Engine Question

I have a friend whom has a late 80's model 15HP Evinrude. It is in pretty good shape. He is interested in selling this as a complete engine. I also am fairly certain it would make a good platform for the J/AXS/A stock classes.

My question, what is an engine in the fishing configuration worth ? It is in real good shape. It has the stock gearbox and all that, and is being used as such. If it is a good engine to build a racing engine from, I would offer it up to racers for him.

    Thanks

Depending on compression readings, water in the gear oil and how much salt water it's ran in (if any), it could range from $500-800 in average condition.

Everything being equal and the motor starts and runs well it is probably worth around $800.

Dave, I asked a similar question couple years ago for a 15 I have & read that certain ones are good for racing, mine s older & not. As race motors they tend to be expensive so if its within the year/model thats used Id think that ups the value.

            Thanks

Thanks guys, I will let the owner know. Hopefully it turns out to be a model the racers want. If so, I will post it up here for him. From going through this engine, it is in decent shape, seals are all good, no real abuse present, very good response on the throttle, and it idles like a champ.
