  • Newbie looking for some help

Hey guy's, I am brand new to the site. I grew up going to the drag boat races. My dad ran a flatbottom drag boat until the 80's. We have fun boats for the lake, but I just picked up a tunnel hull the other week. I was hoping someone could possibly tell me what hull it is, and if they are still around. We plan on doing a complete rebuild on it, so i need to purchase a buch of parts. Here are a couple of pics of it. The serial # on the back is, JFF110211788. So hopefully somone can give me some info on this thing.
    Thanks, Scott

It looks like a Sport C to me.

All the tunnel boat classes now require a full cockpit so it is no longer a legal hull in APBA racing.

It probably had a 40-45hp on it and would do 50ish MPH. The current equivalent class is known as 45SST.

Looks like a fun project, too bad it is no longer legal or you could come racing with it.

      No cockpit needed

This is a Sport C boat and they only need a protective "fence" on the outside of the driver. It must extend @2/3 of the way up the helmet(don't quote me on the height). They run Tuhatsu 40's on them and do @ 50. Have fun with the project and I hope you get to race it.

Thanks guys, I plan on just having fun with it at the lake. I don't think she will let me race it. I run a dragster now, (in the background of pics) so racing this might not happen. She was not to keen on the drag boats, to dangerous, but hey you never know. I was looking at the revolution boats on here, and I think I will get with them to get the parts I need to rig it. Do you think a 50 horse is to much for a 12'? I live in Toledo, Ohio, is there any races near me I can go check out? Thanks again.

              Would like to try it

I'm also a newbie. I'm in the panhandle gulf coast of Florida and it doesn't seem to be popular in my area. Looking for fast fun on the weekends and not interested in legal racing. How do I find a small open cockpit boat to play with. I'm 6' and 185 lbs. Would rather sit but would consider kneeling. Any suggestions on type/style to look for and where to look? Any and all suggestions/info would be appreciated.

I also drove a long skinny thingie a while back. Boat racing will give you a new thrill for sure! Your Dad should surf the Nostalgia Flat section here and may see something he had or remembered seeing. Is his name Joe?
