  • Chip Hanauer: Out of Retirement!!!

While last weekend saw the APBA Gold Cup, the Valleyfield Regatta, the UL race in South Dakota, the Western Inboard Divisionals in Olympia, there was a HUGE event that was overlooked by most mainstream boat racing media outlets.

A Hydroracer.net EXCLUSIVE! Racing legend Chip Hanauer came out of retirement on Friday, July 10th to attempt to break Bill Muncey's all-time unlimited hydro race win record. The only problem was, he was racing against some J Hydro drivers....in a C Stock Hydro!

Click on the picture below to see the action, from Seattle Outboard Association's Capitol Lake Regatta as we captured it:

    Enjoy,

    Patrick,

What a great story, and thank you! So does the younger set know who the geritol taking, tiddlywink playing man is now?

Kudo's to Chip for getting out there and helping to promote our sport.

Chip if you are out there, I will play tiddlywinks with you anytime

Between Chips return and all of the first time drivers I think you all had a busy weekend. How was the mill foil this year? I wish we could have been there.

How many can say that they won racing against him! Guess we know there are a few now. Great stories to tell their kids in the future.

                Broadcast

Yes, this is a continuation of the interviews we did at Tastin' and Racin'. SO not only does SOA owe a big thanks to everyone at Capitol Lake, we owe a huge thanks to the Tastin' and Racin' organizers, Kiro 7 news and Chip. This will be broadcast during Seafair with the J driver interviews that took place a few weeks ago! Way to go!!!

never met ya chip but i was present when Bill Muncy passed the flag to you,so to speak . then you took all the golds. that was sweet

To SOA officers or people in the know

When this airs where will people be directed in case this makes them want to check out outboard racing with us? I am hoping it is a live person, at least that would be best IMHO. Moby Grape will volunteer to mentor as many as you can sign up.

What's the big deal, Chip is experienced in Stock hydros? He started racing in a Hedlund ASH he and his dad bought from John Puestow.

                        LOVE It!!!

Hanauer won more important races after Muncey passed, but if you'all didn't see the race between atlass and Mickey Remund in the Bud, underpowered as it was, all i can say is you ain't seen nothin. Hey Randy!!!

                          What happened???

Here I was watching Seafair and waiting for the big outboard feature. And waiting, and waiting...turns out I'm still waiting. It's not like they didn't have the down time available to air it. Can anyone get ahold of Chip or KIRO and find out where it went
