  • Thanks to Sidewinder for a great ride!!

I would like to thank Ed and Rich Runne for giving me the opportunity to run the Sidewinder 15ss this past weekend in Akron, OH. Thanks also to George Stillwell for lending me the beautiful boat with the padded Cadillac steering wheel.

The Sidewinder was a great ride and it was a ton of fun to battle with some fast Hot Rods again. The motor was an all-round blast to drive with good throttle response, great top end, precise handling, and not to mention those RPM's which sounded sweet back there.

Thanks again to the Sidewinder team for the opportunity to drive such a fun race motor.

    Regards,
    Nate Forshey

    Nate,
Did you guys have a chance to test before racing or just throw stuff together? How competitive do you think this motor will be after some testing? Any problems with starting the motor or handling issues with the A gearfoot?

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

      testing, starting, handling

      Hi John,

Ed and Rich did some testing on Friday before I arrived, but to what extent I do not know.

The only starting issue with the Sidewinder was driver induced. I had the throttle open entirely to far. Once Ed pointed out to me where to set the throttle, it started without issue.

The handling was great, even in the rough water conditions Saturday afternoon.
The new gearfoot tracks like a Yamato and instills instant confidence.

My impression is that the motor can be competitive out of the box and even better with a little prop/boat setup tweaking.

Sounds good Nate. Don't be afraid to pass the word that these motors are available, competitive and will revitalize this class.

I will say this. I was on the stand as the Ref on Sunday when BSH ran. I wasn't able to pay close attention to what motor Forshey was running. It was running very well though. In fact, I had no idea until now that that was a Sidewinder.

Great to hear. It really looked good out there.
