  • Western States Divisionals Oldtown/Newport

July 4th weekend SLORA will be hosting the AOF Western Divisionals at Newport/Oldtown. Testing will be from noon to 5 in the afternoon on Friday the 3rd of July and Racing Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th. Three flights for each class each day. Come and enjoy the fun. We welcome everyone. SLORA club race will be on Saturday and the AOF Western Divisonals on Sunday is how it was last year. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong for this year.

Camping is available in the very large boat ramp parking lot, for a minimal fee. There with be toilets but very, very limited power so if you need it bring a generator. Usually Oldtown Rotary Club has a breakfast one of the mornings for a very minimal fee, pancakes with all the fixings.

One last thing, since we will be in Idaho on the front stretch and in Washington on the back stretch make sure you have your Idaho invasive mussel sticker. You can purchase these on line and make sure you bring a receipt as we have been told they will be checking.

For a roll call we will be bringing three Y-80's and three Y-102's. We could use a good turnout and you won't be disapointed.

If I forgot anything or made a mistake chime right in. If you show up and bring it, we will run it.

Troy, so far we have had 3 boats at each of our two races in the DSH class. To tell you the truth we have had a problem with boat turn out in all classes and we could use so more folks at our events.

We would love to have you and I believe the course there is just under a mile. As our post said we run each class three times a day so you will get some boat time. And there will be testing on Friday.

Hope you can make it and see if any other SOA folks are interested.

Unless there is a big change the weather is suppose to be in the high 80"s to low 90's with a mild breeze. Sound just perfect for racing and having a good time. I might add this group of racers know how to have a good time.

Ok sports fans - it is about 85 degrees here in Newport and boats are starting to arrive. If you have a hydro and are looking for something to do this weekend, come and join in on the fun. Raceday Saturday and AOF Western Divisionals on Sunday. As Mike says, if you bring it we will run it!

                Let's go Racing.

There will be testing tomorrow (Friday) from Noon to about 5pm.

Testing is complete for the day. The course looks good and boats are running well. Temp in the 90's (a bit much for me but it isn't windy and it isn't raining). Tomorrow the racing starts, there is still time to toss the boats on the trailer and head to Newport-Oldtown.

The first day of racing is done. A couple of racers took unexpected swims, although as warm as it was today (95 degrees) one would have to wonder if they didn't do it on purpose.

Keller racing had a rough day when Rick went out of the SE boat and did some serious boat damage. I believe they were hoping to take that boat to Grass Lake but looked to me like they might not be able to get repairs made in time. That boat surely flies fast!

Kevin Grant won both of his heats in Y-102 with the 5U, April Phillips raced in novice and had a second then a first with the 15-U and Mike Phillips had a second then a first in the 55-U.

Team SS had a rough day when their boat went dead in the last heat. Hopefully nothing serious and they will be back on the water tomorrow.

First of all the race was great! It's fun to be around everyone. It's even more fun to be racing! I would like to give a special thanks to my father (Mike Phillips) for the use of the boat (Bucket List 15U).

Of course I really have to thank the man that really makes it so I can race Rick Keller for the use of his cut suit. So Thank you Thank you!

Certainly cannot forget those of you that tossed me into the river twice!!!!!!! Thank goodness it was hot out felt pretty good except for all the sand.

Thank you to everyone for all of your help and encouragement
                      April- Just another Montana Racer.

April forgot to mention that she won the divisionals in Novice Hydro. Congrats April.

The balance of the results will be posted as soon as official list is received from SLORA representative.

Glad to know that all who exited their boats are doing well. No injuries to report to the drivers, a couple boats with some ER needs however.

Weather cooperated if you like it HOT. Thunder storm rolled through late last night with wind and torrential rain but who cares, racing was over.

                          jErK here:

Ya that figures, no mention of Nostalgia Flats as usual. Ya bunch of sponson leaners!

575 boat is a beautiful Sanger Circle Runner restored and driven by Doc with help from Drew Backlund and its the winner in Ski Boat Class. That's two seats and water exhaust! Here he fills in the 468 class and has to run beside MEE!

We had a great time with 9 boats in three classes, look forward to seeing all you creeps at Ione! Any one for a ride?

And, yes we love the flatbottoms. Personally that is the only race boat you would ever get me in. I prefer a seat under my considerable behind! Full race results will be posted as soon as they are received. Unfortunately I can only be responsible for remembering what my own team did in the hot sun.
