  • World's Toughest Riverboat Race-Day 1 Results

Maybe a touch off topic, but here goes.

The Yukon 800 first day results are at this link. I'll be going down to watch some of the boats at the finish line.

Hmmm - that is pretty interesting! And the 50 Year next year!
How fast are these guys going? How much fuel is being carried on board?

      Yukon 800

They carry about 46 gallons of gas, speeds when running lighter, after burning off some gas in the mid 70's, 78 on GPS has been seen before.

Look close at the second photo and you can see front air-traps

Whoa....!!!! 78mph?? That's impressive. What are these things using for engines and what kind of lower units? Howz-about props? RPM?? And, looks like there are 3 people on the thing. Holy crap!!

            Yukon 800

            Hi Ram95-

Yeah I have posted stuff about the racing up here a few times in the past. I'm from a former Stock Outboard racing family and got involved in the local scene here as a volunteer. They have a website www.yukon800.com

The boats are 24 feet long, and they do carry 3 people as required by the rules (they like smaller guys and ladies on the crew). Engines are mostly stock Yamaha 50's with nosecones, rev limiters removed. There have been a couple OMC's, and one Tohatsu run too. 45.3 ci I think is the limit.

Props are 3 blade cleavers around 12 X 20 or 21. I think they run around 7000 RPM and do it for hours on end. In a perfect run, they never stop and will run 400 miles nonstop each day, 800 total. What is amazing to me is that the whole setup is around 1500 pounds. The big surface area and aero design of the hull and tanks creates lift and make the darn things run really light on the water.
