Does anyone know of someone with plans for a good boat in the CSH or OSY class for a Laydown style cockpit. By the end of this weekend I was hurting in the back. Where do all of the europeans get there OSY400 boats from? Somebody must have something good out there somewhere for a winter project. I can't even bend over like all of the young pups out there. Getting old sucks. And then when you get bent over you can't get back up.

Second question: if I were to design my own if nothing comes up from the question above, what are the main differences to consider when designing a laydown boat versus a kneeler? I would think that since you can't lean that the cockpit needs to be off set to the left some? Longer after plane area? Ideas?

Call Bill Giles. He built a laydown OSY for Diane Murray of NY. She has run as fast as any OSY in Region 5 or faster each time I've run against her at Lakeland, FL or Raleigh, NC.

Anyone have a laydown with a carbon front/sponsons?......Seems like if someone had a design with a "rocker"/step in back 1/3rd and a light front that you could fly through corners and/or "pop" exit'n.....it would be competative...........?????????

the big difference between a lay down type hull and a kneeler is the placement and amount of lift built into the bottom...........the rest is not much difference..........

Mike, I "used" to race a laydown 20/C/Cmod Darneille hydro (now retired to the wall in my shop) and still have laydown Darneille FEH..............

PS: Larry Darneille really does not sell "plans"

PSS: Don Nyberg in Newberg, Or had a laydown 20/C/OSY hydro for sale **** cheap just a little while back............it has a LOT of Larry D's designs built into, along with a "copy" of my paint scheme, but in a cool shade of green.......

PSSS: setup in a laydown is much more critical than in a kneeler also.........

From some private messages it sounds like I am going to have to move up in class to do a laydown. Being six feet tall is the problem so I guess I will just run one class and take it easy. Thanks for the info.

No need to move up in classes to race a laydown, not necessary. As Darren mentioned, I designed and built the boat pictured above. The boat ran great, I just spooked myself out when I almost blew it over one time, so I sold it. I'm six feet tall and I had no problem racing a laydown. Talk to Marc Johnson, he built a laydown CSH several years ago and it was a rocket. I ran it once and loved it.

Steve, you already own the perfect boat to convert to a laydown. Let me know if you want some help doing so. It wouldn't take much to convert your red boat.

Marc will get back to you, never fear. You sent an email to the right person. He has designed and built some dandy boats. Just look at the record books.

You might want to consider his new design hull, the Euro. Totally new innovation and quite possibly the next generation in hydroplane racing.

Should you need to chat some on what it involves to make a laydown, feel free to give me a shout. I can at least give you some good info and if I can't answer your question I will find someone who can.

Daren, do you have any plans for the Laydown you retired up against the wall. One of our CSH racers on Saturday night just lost her laydown CSH ride to dry rot. They fought it for years and lost the battle. Ronda has bad knees so she can only laydown. Thought I would see if we could help her out.

I promissed to build her a new one if we can find some plans but that won't help for the rest of the year. Rick Keller let her drive his laydown DSH for the first time in the AOF divisionals and she did great.
