    Burlington

Thanks Sarah for your hard work this weekend, great job as usual. Anyone familiar with Burlington knows that the weather is usually the lead story and this year the weather overall was pretty good. Saturday was great, warm and sunny except for the 30 min rain squall that came thru in the afternoon. Sun came out right away though and it was very pleasant for the annual pig roast. Sunday was sunny but breezy blowing right down the front stretch, but it did not affect the racing , just cooled things off a bit. Monday was mostly overcast and very windy down the front stretch again. We raced all day and finished about 4:30.

Turnout was about what we expected given the economy, a few job loses with local racers, Team Hearn / Race Craft and the Allen’s not here etc. But the good news is that we had 11 CSH’s and 7 JH’s. Kids did a great job in JH, can’t say the same for the CSH’s, lots of carnage including a pretty bad wreck in turn two when John Korbus ran into Tad Olson. Tad got banged up a bit and John had to get some stitches in his hand. John is ok and was back in the pits later that day. Unfortunately for John he also put some holes in the right side of his brand new boat. it appears as though John cut him self on a small rough edge or burr on the throttle. Probably something you would not notice otherwise. I bet John wears his kevlar gloves next time out. Zach Bauman (sp?) also got wet in CSH as well in a separate incident.

After a long winter it sure is great to be racing again.

I also want to thank Doc Miller for making the drive with Braxton to be there also
Thanks also to the race commitee and scorers for making the weekend run so smoothly. You did a great job!

Lessons for free from Burlington. Korbus cut his hand on a tie wrap he had near the throttle that held a water tell-tale to the steering cable. Tape would have been better there. Zach Baumann flipped most likely when the cast aluminum fin bracket on his boat broke in the middle of turn 1. You're playing with fire if you trust ordinary aluminum castings in a critical location. I have to assume that both those boats were safety inspected since it was the frist race of the season.

Also Charlie Pater cut his foot and needed medical attention when he flipped his CSH or 20H.

I think that girl can drive just about any boat she gets into. Fun to watch her evolve into the one to beat. Any girl who can blow over the 125CCH and dry it out and go back out and kick tail.... is okay in my book. I seem to recall her doing that in a J or Kpro rig too. Right back in the saddle madder than hell and ready to hang it out again.

For the first time in over 15 years, I missed the Brat Day Regatta. Had to go east to Franklin (my first time), so that we could meet Hearn Racing/Team Racecraft- Jersey Division (Beth and Tori) mid-way for the kick-off race for Victoria Chew's first year racing. I hope you all understand.

I will say this to the Region 6 APBA contingency: your after-hours entertainment is nothing compared to Region 7's. Eddie.

The only reason the after hours wasn't as good as it usually is, is due to the fact that i wasn't there and did not bring the guitars for my dad and I to play around the fire and have the Evil Sax sing his many different musical renditions. Maybe next time Ed.

You are forgiven... as long as you do not make a habit out of this type of behavior. LOL see you at the races

                      John's hand is OK

Just a note about John Korbus's hand.

It is healing nicely and he has full use. We kept looking to try and figure out what he cut himself on since everything around the throttle and cockpit was smooth. Kevin Schertz spotted the cable tie and we do think that it was the culprit. But it was outside of the cockpit and on the steering cable several inches (6?) behind the throttle. Clipped short and not obvious as a hazard. Not the location that would normally be touched. We think that when he got pitched he must have grabbed for the cable. (As an after thought, tape would have been a good idea as Sam suggested. Gloves too)

Just passing this on so others can avoid similar injury
