Winona has a great race course and town spirit!!

We attended last year and had a blast! The lake is incredible for either boat racing, spectating, or a long walk. They had the biggest town parade I have ever seen...Shriners in/on every type of bike/car/cart you can imagine, bands from every town in the local vacinity, a woman riding a buffalo, and even race boats!! Don't miss the parade!

At the lake there were various vendors, a concourse d'elegance of some really cool cars, and very friendly locals.

The race course is great for racing and spectating and the pits were great. I might also mention that the staff at the local hospital was very nice...Lauren attemped to set an altitide record testing on Friday....

Also, Preston Thirlby will recommend the McDonald's drive-thru as he hit it on his "wheels" every morning for breakfast.

If you can make the trip to Winona, MN it is worth every mile of your travels!!!

Thanks for your promotional comments!! We natives of course already know that racing in the Hiawatha Valley of Minnesota is the greatest. In spite of what I hear, I am still hoping to see the California contingent again this year. I have an appointment with KG Country next monday when they will be requesting photos of the 2008 racing. With your permission, I will provide them with some of your most excellent photos. Thanks for your constant support.

        Winona photos

Pete, you are welcome to use any and all photos from last year...just make sure to spell my name right on the photo credits!!!

I wouldn't hold my breath for the CA group being there, though. Lauren is now focused on volleyball and is even giving up a local race that weekend to "step-up" to play w/ an 18's team (she is 15).

Hope is is a great event...I will miss not being able to be there!!!!

I AM holding my breath, because I have allowed the SD committee and the city council to predict that there will be race teams from "all over the country" participating in the Steamboat Days Regatta and the North American Championships for 250H and 350R. The city has approved all of my wishes and the SD group is an enthusiastic bunch who is looking forward to seeing us again in '09. Although the race program will be finished on Saturday, the SD group has requested (mandated) that we have 4 pieces in the grand parade on Sunday. I need a capsule hydro, a KPRO (or 2) a big runabout, and a laydown hydro. The USTS entries will be in the beginning of the parade so that we can finish early and go home. I am looking for volunteers, otherwise I will be assigning participants. This is the best racing spot in the country!! Please come and join us.

Pete - You can use my Runabout if necessary. Call or e-mail me as to how it will be displayed. For example: on my boat dolly, pulled by a garden tractor?

When will the schedule be announced so I know what class(es) I will be entering?

As an added note if anyone else is a runner, there is a 5K race on Saturday at 9:00 am. Information and an entry blank is on the Steamboat Days web site. - Thanks, Tim

The schedule is already listed on the USTS website. In the cover story is the highlighted word "presentation". Click on it and you will see the entire racing schedule minute by minute. Yes, I will be happy to use your runabout. Look for an email from me.

It works for me. Don't know why it doesn't for you, so here it is:
250R runs 3 heats on Friday evening, 500R runs 3 heats on the first Saturday session, 350R runs on the second Saturday session. Specifically, 500R should start at 12:50,
                  1:20, and 2:00
                  350R should start at 3:10, 3:40, and 4:10
250R should start on Friday at 5:40, 6:10, and 6:40
                  Looking forward to your participation

You can use my hydro in the parade if you need a laydown hydro.

There is no shortage of water for the race. I think there is enough for all classes to race. The water is up around the bathrooms. See everyone monday.
