  • old motors

The sea king is a monkey ward we bought that one from a widow at a garage sale in about 81-82ish that is the only info on that one. The merc has ben in the garage for as long as I can remember dad can't even remember where or when he got the motor. He thinks someome told him it was a race motor from the 50's. Any info would be nice. Thanks

    Merc fishing motor

The Merc is a Fishing motor from the early 50's. The model may be a KF possibly 5 to 7 hp .. I am sure Sam will know..

The Merc is a KE-4 and should be an early one as the first year didnt have the top handle on the rewind. I think they were 1949.

It is most likely a KE4, KE4A or KE7. Verify with the serial # on your Merc to those listed for these models.

          Sea King

So far there's been no mention of the Sea King. I wanted to give my expert opinion on that particular motor. Thru my years of experience in the used outboard business, I have come to know that motor as a boat anchor.

          (sorry, I couldn't help it.)

But on the brighter side, I club raced a KE-4 in a local junior (kid's) class many, many years ago. I had a lot of fun with it. Your Mercury has some potential in the hands of a restorer/collector.
