      BU Photo's

Beg to differ on the New York City response. I have photo's of the DU start at Haverhill, Massachusetts with the exact same buildings in the background. Will post once we get our scanner hooked back up.

The two story building across the river with the terrot to the left is the still standing Haverhill Fire Department water street station.

After a 50 year absence, pending receipt of the US Coast Guard permit, racing to resume at this site this August.

        BU Photo #1

Note the Building across the river with six large windows and a terrot to the left. Here is a photo of the DU start with the same building in the background. I went to the site yesterday for this years event and the building has not moved!!

          BU Photo#2 - Haverhill, MA

The second photo of the BU start posted on this thread has a concrete building in the background with 12 windows facing the river. Attached is a photo of the start of DU (although caption reads B Hydro!!) from the same angle. Note the concrete building with the 12 windows in the background. That building has been replaced with a 15 story apartment building which will have a great view of the Haverhill River Run scheduled for this August.

Glad the building hasn't moved. I never was absolute in stating that the picture Cooper poster was the Val Ray Boat Club, just a response for the picture. If you have ever been at the the Val Ray Boat Club, you would see the similarity including the power building. Didn't mean to upset anyone. BTW my brother also mentioned a dead giveaway was the BU start picture showing Larry Castenango, I believe that I mis-spelled his name, wouldn't have been at the Val Ray Boat Club race as he almost never ventured from Region 1.

The Building "never moved" was kind of a local joke. As part of the 1970's Urban Renewal program, most of the City (and it's history) was leveled and never rebuilt to expectations. The City will be promoting this years event in hopes of attracting people back to the downtown.

You are correct on the venturing out of Region statement as there were more than enough races within the Region to satisfy your appetite!

                Thanks Steve

Thanks for posting the pictures and for the info. I had no idea what so ever where those two photos were from.

                What about this location???

Yeah Ric, I thought so too, but we raced from so many areas within that part of the river that I didn't recognize the pier on the left. The house across the way with the grass to the seawall & what appears to be the bridge in the back ground, where we pitted at one time, were good clues.
