No, CSH qualifying heat. Charlie didn't place at the Divisionals, I placed 2nd & qualified. Charlie even had a padded cylinder but still didn't qualify. Although hw as one of best friends, he loaned his engine to Don Christie for the finals, not even offering it to me. I would have turned it down as I was running very well, plus we weren't aware at that time that he had the padded block. Don won the first heat final, I was 2nd. On the way to the 1st turn in the 2nd heat, the larger area of the river got very rough. Bob Brown from Miami, previous champion with another padded block stuffed. Christie also stuffed on the inside lane but stayed upright but never continued. I again finished 2nd to Stan Armstrong. Stan had a 1st & 3rd & won.

                  A Utility

                  Coop,

That's my dad in 105-W in A-Utility. Vern Kargus for those of you who don't know me. In those days each boat had a number so his hydro was 9-W and his utility (I love that word) was 105-W.
                  Cool pictures Cooper!

                    Hi Tom,

The boat looks a little shorter then a Sid, could it be a Van Pelt? Or did someone build it locally?

                      Hydro

The hydro picture, it kind of looks like one of my uncles, either Denny or Dewey Berghuer powering up the inside in the white decked Sid Craft. Also, the boat second from the inside sure looks like a cabover....cool!
Beloit, 1960...I'm old but I wasn't born yet.

                        Home Built

                        John,

My dad built that one in the basement. He may have copied a Sid Craft as he ran Sid hydro's back then. He built 2 or 3 "A's" in the basement.

                            Tom 10W,
I knew that was Vern, I raced against him in AU.

More photos may be posted later but have to get back to work now and I still need to do my income tax return!

Out front that's Ed Wulf with a modified A-B Swift hydro. He did win.

                                Beloit?

Don't let the pictures fool you, the river is not as wide as it appears in pic of ASH.
