Cooper, that's the start of the "DSR" race. I see 2 boats I recognize 31-P Dick Kane & 19-C Ron Hill. Any pictures of the CSH?

COOP-- is this the same spot on the river we run now? Pic makes it look wide and 5 pin turn. Didn't think we had that much room. Any pit pic's.

The first turn was a sweeping wider turn by the bridge. The turn by the dam was much tighter, don't recall if it was just 2 or 3 buoys.

I thought that I recognized the #. When John was stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ, he would stay with us on Friday nights when there was a race somewhere in Region 3 then go to the races with us. He was always fast, but tight turns were a challenge for him. Scroll up to the Delaware Water Gap pix. Including there but I recall that he did do well against some formidable DSR competitors. Pontius Sr., Dick Kane, Dick Rees, Harrison Boggs & a few others.

                  1960 Beloit

                  Larry, John & all,
The second turn was a lot to the south of where we currently run making a fairly long course but a relatively tight 2nd turn. I of coarse did not race there in 1960 but my first Nationals was there in 1970 in which we ran a similar course. We ran the longer course for a Merc Challenge race there later on.
The problem with the long course is the start is a long way out from the judges stand or you end up with a dog leg in the front stretch. I have other 1960 pictures but I do not think i have any CSH photos. I'll post some more later on.
Too nice to be inside this weekend.
                  More later

Hey Coop, Do you have any BU pix from 1960 Beloit? I had luck in qualifying but wasn't as fast as others like Stover, the Hedlunds, Carl Roloff was going well. The only pix I have is me in my Broas Craft 65 W between heats being held in water by John Eimmerman in waders. I don't know how to post it even tho I've scanned it into my computer. Jon

                      My Cockpit Cover...

Rules were changing in 1960...Seems you could cover your front cockpit....this boat never had the cockpit cut out as were heard they were doing away with the rule and we planned, if caught, to appeal that our cockpit cover was built in, as you can see 19-C had a white cockpit cover but no cockpit...We knew if we showed with no cover, the stuff would hit the fan..So, we had a cockpit cover...

We had CF number (California registration) so when the Fish and Game guys came arrested Hal Kelly, we didn't need to buy a Wisconsin sticker, as California's was Ok in Wisconsin...

Four starts in DU's second heat...I won the first heat, and after four restarts I was DQ's for gun jumping.....no cameras in those days..Dean Chenowith said, I was legal, but he wasn't an official....

I burned up all of Jane Smith's Sunoco gas...Much faster than California gas!!!!

                        In 1960 I had a DSR Sid Craft with D 78 W on it.
                        That was my first Nationals.

FYI... if you scroll your cursor over the first photo, it gives the discription of the photo, including the location.
