They have a local builder who makes Austin copies also. I was impressed with his workmanship. He charges $1000 for them.

Hello Darrell. Yes, helmets are used for the race. Most helmets are removed after the first couple miles. But they are indeed used at the start of the race.


In March 2011, Josh Pearson and I went to Ecuador. Among many great experiences was a visit to Francisco "Pancho" Laynez boat shop. In Ecuador, Pancho is a very highly regarded builder. Most of the winning boats are made by him.
