    Gents,
This is a great opportunity for all of you to participate in the spectacle we know as the Top'O Michigan Marathon. You won't need any special equipment or big tanks. Any traditional short course runabout will be great. The majority of the course we have selected is smooth water as it winds through the highest density of spectators in the community of Indian River and beyond. Check out the rules for Stock Classic in your APBA rulebook....they are very simple...no weights, no measurements, no inspection criterion. All you must do is run a stock engine (A, B, 22, C, 36, or D) that was built before 1983 and is in it's stock form. Of particular note is that there is no National Championship in Stock Classic so this race is a "special race" as defined by APBA. What this means is that if you are retired or don't have a current APBA race license, you may join APBA for a "single event membership" and race both days (both heats). All other APBA equipment and safety rules apply. Specifications for helmets, cut-suits, throttles, kill switches apply. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. Call me at 740-319-5040 if you need some encouragement! Mike, RaceBoat16-S,

COOL......... You're 1965 Rinker is wood.... Is that right? As if I remember someone made a few fiberglass copies of either a Rinker or a Hedlund.

Does anyone remember who that was?

I had a Rinker built by Jan Rinker in, I think 1974, fiberglass bottom. Ran an 'A' and 15ss HotRod. I remember he was very reluctant to build it, but my father, who raced with his father, back in the fifties talked him into it. It was a beautiful boat, sold it at a garage sale in 1990 for $250 with the 'A' motor.

                        Fiberglass Rinker/Hedlund BUs

In the early/mid 70s some fiberglass copies were made by Dave Rodat (sp?) under the HunterCraft name (he also built duck skiffs). I think he was from the Shawano, WI area. Any other Region 7 OFs have anything to add ?

                          Gents,
For those that are interested in old Rinkers.......Mine was built in 1965 at the Rinker factory in Syracuse, IN. It is a fiberglass hull. I went to pick it up and watched Jan force it out of the mold with high pressure water. I bought just the hull and framed and decked it in myself. For years Rinker built molded plywood pleasurecraft but also many wood A/B runabouts. John and Jan were almost overtaken when everyone was switching to fiberglass but they flexed to the times and began to build fiberglass pleasure boats too. Stover Hire raced both wood and fiberglass Rinkers but eventually switched over to Hedlunds in about 1966 or so?
I ran this Rinker last year at Top'O with my 25XS and finished both days completely battered and bruised. The Rinker is NOT a rough water boat and the 25XS is a bit too much motor for it. See you at the Top'O in August !!!! Mike Raceboat 61-S
