It is not a weight to speed issue. Those big guys can be competitive. I am 230,(which I think is fairly big) and most likely will be that at the NE Divisionals and I still plan on battling for the win. $5000 for a new boat? It doesn't have to be Carbon to be light and strong. Now, just like any sport, if you want to win or compete to win you work on it and loose the weight to be competitive. Yea, easier said than done, look at me, Ive been saying I am gonna loose this weight every year for the past five years, but Rachel keeps cookin those mean meals.

Bottom line, it is an adjustment to bring the Yamato out of 25ssr and allow those drivers to a comfort level of competition in the big boy class. Making it 460 certainly does not leave the big boys out, it justs makes it harder for the REALLY big boys, and easier for the majority of the target racers of 180-230lb range to adjust. It is certainly not going to slow you down, look at all the competative 25ssr guys running 40lbs over the weight limit. A lot of things are fine the way they are until all the unforseen changes catches up with us and it becomes a real mess. Which seems to go around a lot now a days.

Well what do you say in the fact of my dad and several others that maybe be in the upper range of 200Lbs. It's my dad's first year back and he is racing csr because it's a good class that he might be able to compete in with an average amount of income. I know that if it changes there will be one less csr in the region then. I add 20lbs of lead to my csr and still my vote is NO. And if you have to add even more lead to your boat then why don't you just make your boat stronger and a little heavier.

                    hey hey hey............

I don't consider myself fat............... But, had my boat built for my weight, so I did not have to add lead............so my Runne is a tad heavy..........maybe I should once again become a "skinny guy"...........

PS: I'd LUV to have one of them Runne carbon copy CSR'S!!!!!!

Watch it Troy! Although having ADHD may be a big boost to your metabolism, Karma may kick you in the ass and you will get the curse. (I'm laughing) The same goes out to Matt Gallagher. You better start the diet now if your wife is that good of a cook. I started putting on weight when I turned 34.
I'm dying here. I've been dieting since Jan. I have given my wife the nickname of the diet nazi. Skip buys oreos, wings, pizza oh what the heck, all the foods I'm trying to stay away from and eats them in front of me. He has found my empty candy bar and Little Debbie wrappers in the garage and ratted on me to the diet nazi. Today I went off the diet and had a giant corned beef sandwich. I'm not even one tenth Irish. But I loves me some of dat corned beef.
Skip was being kind when he said upper 200 lbs. He didn't know that at Thanksgiving I hit my all time high of 304. (I not fat, I'm big boned) I am down to 276. I plan on losing 40 more. But keep it in mind, that I get easily agitated when I'm hungry. A candy bar on the end of a stick might calm me down.
I'm voting no. But I do realize that racing again has given me the incentive to take care of myself. But even more, I want to be a little more competitive. I just don't know if I can drop another 10 lbs to make weight. (sarcasm) C'mon guys, give us older fat guys a break. I'm called the Kool-Aid man because I said I felt like a big pitcher of orange Kool-Aid when I put my safety gear on for the first time. Racing in a Kevlar suit is enough reason to lose weight.
One last thought. If you're ever out at a bar at some race and you start to get hassled, having a big guy around to watch your back is a good thing. I have a couple of friends who would say amen to that.
Keep it simple. Keep the rule the same. Keep the humor light hearted. And Oh yeah, keep it right side up.

                      Rick SR.

                        Nice, Wagner Racing!

Look forward to seeing you in CSR. But didn't I see you carrying your own singin' kaoroke at Grass Lake? Think I got the right guy. (smile here)
I've been reading some great posts on this thread. Very interesting stuff. I'm probably a little out of touch, but is it that easy to build a boat that will come in at weight for a 220 pound driver? I've only prepared boats for Top'O and we don't have to worry about weight so much. I't s more a matter of 'Will it last two days.' We tend to build a little extra boat into it so even a 180 pound guy may not have to add weight. When I think of a 220 pound driver that's adding weight, I think I've found who I will be talking to when I can build a short course boat.
Do ultralight, or even just 'light' CSR's stand the test of time, or are regular replacements the norm?
Whatever the outcome of the vote...great conversation everybody. C57M

I vote yes. I have to add weight to meet the minimum now. The big guys in the roll ups have an advantage over us flat turners, especially on a short course, by riling it up with their wakes, washes, bow waves and by generally muscling their boat around the course. Lets even it up a little more by giving us flat turning finese guys a little more top end and jump out of the corners as opposed to their shorter turns which a lighter weight will do. At our last race last year one of our flat turners jumped the gun all four heats just trying to get out in front of the rollups to try and maintain a decent postion. Even so he was unable to maintain a competitive position on the outside due to the conditions on the inside where he was unable to go. In the sake of parity I believe that the minimum weight should be lowered to allow the lighter flat turners to be able to compete with the big rollups.
My 2 cents. I'm racing CMod for the most part next year anyway, so maybe my opinion is moot.

Well said Rick Sr.! I only talk the talk because I believe in the walk the walk attitude of the Steering Committee and the SORC and the larger picture that they have for the sport and how to market it. Too much on one plate(no pun intended) is way too scary. These small adjustments in my interpretation are to fit the Steering Committees recommendations over the next couple of years and could possibly help in the long run. Keep up the diet though Rick!

As mentioned earlier, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. And, its ridiculous to say that lowering the weight is good for the sport. The 25SSR Yamato drivers that really like their ride will step up to CSR with their rigs. We do not need another band-aid fix to cover up a previous band-aid fix. Racers need to conform to the rules not the other way around.
