No problem. Nothing happened at the meeting concerning this issue, I was there.

      laydown mirrors

I saw them on Ebay with a buy it now price of around $50.00 plus shipping. Just can't remember the brand name right now. Joe Swikert (sp sorry Joe) put a set on his laydown already. Since they are now required I guess we have no choice.

Here is the link to the mirrors that I use. They will not be like looking at the side mirrors on your car, but the key is with the vibrations we get they will not move! I do use them on the PRO boat and will be putting them on my FE. Yes, David is right, we do get a lot of vibration. However, even with the vibration I can see if someone is to my inside or outside. Joe Schwiekert (correct spelling, Dave ) did put them on his boat, and he can also attest to the fact that once you lock them into place they will not move, which in my opinion is the most important attribute to these types of mirrors.

P.S. The mirrors come in white and black. Easily painted to match the boat if needed.

Tim is so good he only looks back to see where he's been, not where he is going.

          What you really need . . .

Are Sun Seeking mirrors. When activated the Sun Seekers calculate sun position and when the sun is behind you the Sun Seekers will angle up to the sun and reflect a LARGE BLINDING SUNBEAM towards the boats behind you.

Been looking into mirrors for some time now and notice that most of you (those that have posted links and have given info here on HR) are going with pretty big mirrors i.e. quite a bit bigger than the 6 square inches that is mandated. That being said, I'm wondering what the "weight" of the different mirrors everyone is buying are coming in at?
I know that most of us are not running our laydowns in a weight controlled class, and the mirrors won't be much of a problem in that respect. But... I, like most, like to keep weight to a minimum.

            Not a critical question, I know......Just curious.

              Mirror Weight & Desired Characteristics

Jeff - Like most attached parts on a high performance racing boat, the lighter the weight the more brittle the mirror housing materials usually are and the easier it is to jiggle or bump it out of adjustment (or worst case, accidentally break it off.) I would look for mirror assemblies that are made of really tough plastic or cast aluminum, have a rounded edge housing, and have lenses that are convex (not flat.) I was not able to use a flat-surface, tinted baby turbo car mirror with much success on my OSY, and the constant impacts in rough water and operation vibration eventually broke one of the mounting studs.

Thanks for your input Al, My biggest consideration is having too much mass or weight hanging out off the cockpit side. My thinking was the opposite of yours( lighter would be better ). You and I both know it can be a pretty violent ride ! My guess is by the end of the 09 race season us (laydown mods) will have a pretty good Idea of what works and what doesn't.

                Thanks again.

Jeff, as you know the mirrors I told you about were on the side of a JDS and were without problems the entire time I have used them.

Yes and thank you Bill . You were the first person I asked about mirrors.
I know you gave them your seal of approval and I don't doubt your happy with them. I'm just one of those guys that likes to look at all options before I make a decision. " I'm just a picky SOB"......LOL!

                    Thanks again.
