Working with the Carolina Cup folks, if we can get an internet connection at Roanoke Rapids, we plan to stream from there as well as post quick updates of the results.

Good deal Sam I also have plans for UStream for 2009 but the one hurdle will be a strong steady internet connection in the rural areas.

                Hey Brad,

I agree great stuff and a huge thank you to Jack Lowe I have been watching off and on all afternoon. Sam Cullis and I have plans to air a few races this year using the same platform. Interesting that Jack was able to pull it off with just a laptop and aircard. I didn't think the aircard would pull a strong enough signal but clearly I was wrong.

Location, location, location is also the other key factor to pulling in strong signal. I wonder what ISP is aircard is with?

                Great show!

For those that missed the streamed event.

Audio was nearly perfect with conversations and interviews within 10 ft of the camera perfectly audible and the racing announcer mostly audible, even over background motor noise.

Camera was mostly good to excellent but occasionally a bit jerky with slow framerates at times and 3-4 dropped connections over the 4 hours I watched it. Dropped connections were fixed in 30-60 secs. Individual boats were easily distiguishable in all areas of the racecourse. Zoom had to be used on the backstretch. The backstretch at Lakeland was as far away from the camera location as it possibly could have been at any other Stock/Mod/PRO race, even Wakefield or Whitney Point, maybe even farther considering the 1 1/4 mile record course.

Not sure what camera he used and the native resolution but an image stabilising feature would have been nice for those long zooms. The shakiness coulda been leftover from the night before though, kinda hard to tell

                  Again, nice work 60-J

                    Hey Brad,

I plan to stream my signal to UStream via Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3. I have a Flash media server all set up but have just about lost my mind trying to get it configured properly.

                      Looking pretty sweet, Dan

                      What camera you using?

Sit in a pontoon boat in the middle of the course and the coverage should be great!

I am astounded at the quality of the video stream at the relatively low bandwidth of an aircard. Lakeland is in a high population area and I expect there to be strong signal strength.

There are other races that are in fairly remote locations, not sure about connectivity. Like Jesup, GA, where only one carriers cell phone works, and barely at that.

Jury is still out on the cam not being able to pull in a strong signal is the very reason that I have held off on publicizing this project. Its all a mute point if I can not pull a strong enough signal which is the very core of the entire broadcast. Lakeland like most of central Florida is fairly flat so signals are not obstructed by much.

Dan, I just checked out your "more info" link. I think Lowe got both better audio and video from his feed than the example video in that link.

                              just an fyi
