how many board feet do you want?
and when you say "full "
do you mean 4/4 or 8/4 . IE full inch. or full 2 inches thick?

I spent a whole day on the internet and the best place for price in full sheets of the plywood that you are talking about was at Noah's marine. They have a very nice web site and are easy to work with. I try to support US companies but there price was so much better and these are trying times

I'm pricing 4/4. The prior post about plywood was not from me, I was unaware there was an obeche plywood.

Phil......try L.L.Johnson. They are not showing obeche on their price
sheet but they had some in stock a year ago so may be a specialty
            item for them.

I have been tring to get them to handle Obeeche for about 5 years now. They simply won't do it unless you order like 10,000 board feet. They do have Sitka Spruce. Kind of expensive from them, but it is close to me, so I buy some from them. Their plywood is iffy. Make sure you get the stuff in millimeters and not the stuff in inches. Makes a big difference. They stock Okume plywood and mahogany, etc.

For your plywood, Noahs is a good place, I have bought from them. It is as good as Harbor and cheaper.

I would love to find a source for Obeeche in my area, seems every lumber yard I have called does not have it and can't order it.

                  why not a domestic wood?
As in cottonwood? it is very similar in weight and strength.
and it is usually very straight grained.
it is just slightly weaker in comparison to sitka spruce. and it is slightly lighter per cubic foot. so it is really a wash in everything but price.

I am interested. I have looked at a lot of lumber trying to find a good cheaper substitute for Sitka Obeeche. So far, nothing I have saw in person would work well. Similar in weight adds up fast in boat building. 10% difference in weight could mean first place or last place.

Give me a PM on this cottonwood. Have you tried it ?

Gene built his boats with it. Dad had a log cut up several years ago and we ran it through his kiln. I know where there is some more I will make some calls and make sure he still is sitting on some. and how much he wants per board foot.

I can't remember where on the internet I saw this but it was a comparison of dimensional lumber for strength and weight and of course Sitka Spruce was first but second was choice select Douglas Fir with good tight grain. I was able to go to the local mill and hand slect the best stuff they had. It was to nice to be cut up into strips.

I also checked and there is such a thing as Obeche plywood but can't find anyone that sells it in the US.

                            wood comparison

Here is one site I used, It has a very large number of different types of wood.
I take all these numbers with a grain of salt. you can find other places with different numbers for the same type of wood.
