What did the 4 stroke 15hp cost you?

Went to the guy who letters my trucks, took the font from Johnson and had two stickers made. Cost of $12.00 for both. Thus, the two cycle to four cycle conversion kit! The guy from the city who works the ramp saw the stickers and asked what the Redline Oil was that I was dumping into the fuel and my reply was Oxygenators to reduce emissions...

His reply was wow, I can smell how clean your engines are when they run compared to everyone else. I smiled and turned to pull KT's rope, the engine popped off and she was gone.

Sorry side tracked the thread but had to answer a question....

After you buy the Yamato, you must tear it apart, "champfer" the ports, deck the block, deck the head, re-cut the angle on the head, contour the foot to direct water to the water pickup, deck the towerhousing, and replace the propshaft, just to name a few "necessaries".

You never had to do anything when you bought a used hot rod. It just depended what crank you had, what crankcase you had, what gear case you had, there were tower configurations and lots of igniton choices, some ignitions had multiple flywheels. Ed has 4 or 5 that all go the same speed, he has just chose to let Jeff Williams tear down the same one at Nationals inspection for ten years.

Other than that rope it and go. eeeee hawwwww!

An old buddy of mine from Fishers Landing , NY, who built Hot Rods at one time for his two sons,
              said to me that to race Hot Rods;
"you need to be good friends with your bank manager if you run a Rod".
Next time I see him here in FL, I must ask what he meant by that.

Stone and Sons in Texas (Outboard Jack) has quite a few available 713-686-3011

                  Scott Reed or...?

The GLM piston that's on the SO agenda for approval; is it the same (or by the same mfg) as the Sierra piston? Sierra is far more readily available than GLM and Sierra has a MUCH better reputation for quality parts than GLM does. If it's made by the same mfg could the Sierra # (18-4126, $55.99 MSRP)also be approved?

Good thing I have one more set of OEM +.030 pistons for our A. I will, at all costs, not use any more GLM parts ever again, their quality (used to be) that BAD!

I agree 100%..............GLM stuff is junk (unless they are marketing someone elses piston).!!!!!!!!!

Deja Vu all over again. We had all of these same discussions, arguments and debates more than 35 years ago with the Merc KG-4's and Mark-15's. First, .015 over, then .030 over - finally went to the OMC's for A of course. Some things never change it seems.

its actually not that bad a situation at all. There are quite a few choices in aftermarket pistons available. Wiseco makes them in STD, .010, .020, .030, and .040. Sierra also has a wide selection. I think Vertex also. I am sure Brent has done research on this though.

I would be willing to bet these dealers would sell the piston and rings for less than retail ($130) and closer to their cost, though still more expensive than the aftermarket ones..........

there are also quite a few dealers that have the STD pistons p/n 397487 in stock also...............this dealer lists (7) in stock:

Wiseco are a forged piston, I do not like the they wear in a engine or the way they look when removed. You want to run .040" Wisecos run Formula A!

GLM are a cast piston, after obtaining them they were weighed & measured as were multiple after market pistons; this was the closest to OEM. We seen little or no difference between the GLM & OEM while testing or on the race course.

Anybody think Ed Runne would have contacted the individuals involved w/the procurement process if he seen an issue with our selection? Well he is yet to have anything negative against our pick nor will he.

This was already explained to Mike Bartlett in a private message... but we all now know he has a set of .030" OEM pistons he intends to use....hope they are not too out of round & the ring locator pins do not come out. If by chance they are I have 4 complete sets I will sell you for full retail!
