Anyone have a good source for Obeche under 3.50/bd ft? I found a place on line that delivers, just wondering if there is anything else out there better. Thanks.

If you know the properties of the wood, it's nearly unfathomable why you might want to use anything else. Obeche is (relatively) light, stiff, inexpensive, virtually without knots and very even grain which works easily and it shatters on impact to keep damage localized rather than splitting. Disadvantages are the dust it makes when planing, not just shavings like other woods and possible allergic, breathing reactions to it. Wear a mask or have someone else plane it. Advantage is a good place although they have a minimum order size.

Be careful with Obeche. Many wood workers have become desensitized and have allergic reactions to the wood dust. Repair a Obeche and Epoxy built boat. Be extra careful. Many of you boat builders know this. Obeche is really easy to work with, Planes better than pine. Not really a problem building new boats. but repairs are another deal.
I do not have a source for Obeche here on the Left Coast so i use spruce.bill b

I agree with Bill! I haven't worked with obeche but I have seen a lot of it shatter. I'm not so sure its' as impact resistant as spruce or white cedar.
Sure its' light but with the time and effort it takes to build a boat why not use a better material?
