          Zanesville 2009 Mod Nationals

Planning for 2009 Mod Nationals is well underway. 15-19 July (racing on 17-18, the 19th is blow-out day). We will bid for JH/JR/AXSH/AXSR North American Championships at the Nat. Mtg. in January. We will also run about 5 of our most highly populated Stock classes, too. Tentatively, ASH, 20SSH, CSH, and choose about 2 of the following BSH, BSR, DSH, 25SSH, CSR depending on racer responses.
Highlight this year will be that Motorhomes WILL BE allowed to camp on the beach in the pits. We've been trying for this for 6 years. There's a new Sheriff in town this year. More to follow. Mike Marshall, Raceboat 61-S, Race Director

food 4 thought, was at the last zanesville nats and i have intentions of trying 2 get 2 09's event however, i am not traveling that distance to sit on shore while stock filler classes and nac racers take 2 the water. if this is a mod nats those classes[the mods] should all b run B4 the fillers. this is the reason most of us travel. also the grounds need more bathroom accomodations and a better cleaning schedule. great 2 hear bout the motorhme arrangement, felt bad 4 those that were inconvienanced last time. also, championship races should never b run back 2 back. it is not right some classes get fix it time and others only get fuel it up time! later, the [mutant earthling] alias dil/viller 23w.

              More: ZZV Mod Nats

              Rod, et al.,
We probably won't run back-to-back heats ever again. Our intent in 2007 was to accomodate several racer's requests to reduce the number of engine/boat swaps. Quite a few drivers expressed a wish to use the same boat in multiple classes. They were happy about the plan. Can't please everyone, every time.
Our 2007 mix of Stock/J/ and Mod Nationals was to accomodate dozens of Stock racer's here in Region 6 who had no intention of driving all the way to Moses Lake to compete. If we leave the J/AX kids off the racing program at this years 2009 Mod Nats we would be the ONLY Stock/Mod race in the Midwest that doesn't offer some competition opportunity for them. J-kids going to a Mod Nationals even if it is for "only" for a North American Championship is important to the future of MOD, too. I don't consider J classes, FILLER !
Funny how a one-employee, porta-potty screw-up leaves a "stain" on an otherwise pretty super Mod National Championship (252 entries). The guy who we contracted to clean out the johns daily skipped a couple of service calls. I was unable to contact him in time to prevent a bad situation. Cell phone didn't work in the pits and I had to find a break in the action to drive up the to Exxon station to find a phone. If you had come to the 2008 Divisional Championships at Zanesville perhaps you would have noticed that we fixed the problem this past Summer.
We will have some Stocks at this year's Mod Nats because most of our Region 6 guys race both categories. They can only travel to a limited number of races each season. They support our club and our race....I'll provide them with an opportunity to come to Zanesville every year to race. Besides, it helps to pay the bills. A Nationals has MORE THAN DOUBLE the expenses of a local race; banquets facilities, trophies/awards, tents for inspection/scoring, "paid" officials, catering for officials, paid announcer, back-up equipment (sometimes even a back-up racecourse), paid security, race programs, 4-day EMS/Rescue, etc. Unless YOU have been a Race Director at a Nationals you have little appreciation of what it takes or how much it costs the club. Gimme' a bit of a break, will ya' ?
There are only so many of us that will do this, be careful.

marshall man, relax. it seems 2 often when opinions r xpressed those opinions ruffle feathers. u do not need 2 b given a break . my comments were xpressed in hopes of u and your committee seeing a different point of view. in a perfect world there would b no weather delays 2 contend with so a scheduled program could b run without issues. u do not have 2 convince me of the importance of j's or local club racers participation in a region event. however a good share of people that travel 4 a championship event travel more than the normal distance than locals at a much greater xpense and my [food 4 thought] comments were NOT a club bashing . so man take a pill,my intentions were 2 give thought 2 getting the good water time 2 the mod nats 2 complete their program allowing travel time needed 2 return 2 there respective regions then do the fillers and when i write fillers it is not meant 2 insult those in those classes!! in closing ,i do not intend 2 read any more of this thread so if u cannot xcept this thought give me a call. i am no different than others in reguards 2 apprecieating your clubs effort in taking on the task of putting on a national event. most sincerely the [mutant earthling] 23w

Everyone--seriously--when comments are posted on this forum they are ---in most cases--comments/suggestions to make all races just a little bit better. There are so many wonderful people involved in the racing community. Some are more in the forefront--takes on tasks without having to twist their arms. And it is greatly appreciated. Believe me. So when someone posts about suggestions on the upcoming BIG events--read them; think about them and don't be defensive. We want your race to be a success but don't forget--a lot of people travel thousands of miles to attend. The 2007 Zanesville event was most assuredly a success. But there were problems-like in any race. And, racers do travel a very long distance hoping to get in their racing when everything else cooperates. If we can't discuss these things in this type of forum--making sure the Mods run first since it is a 2 day Mod National event; bathroom facilities (I literally had to stand on top of the toilet seat and squat to do my business because the toilets were so full--believe me it was not an easy task); keeping drivers informed; --do we want to take up the Race Directors precious time by calling them and discussing these matters? I think we should be able to ask questions so every racer is informed. We shouldn't be afraid to point out the problems; talk about them; hopefully fix them and move on. We know race committees bust their butts to get things done and it is appreciated. Just my two cents. Peace!!!
