Proper boat storage!

Is there a right and a wrong way to store a runabout? I have a raised portion of ceiling in my garage and was thinking of hanging my CSR marathon boat by the transom handles and the 'bow eye'. Is this a bad Idea? I suppose my concerns would be deformation of my hull.
I also am considering placing it along the wall suspended on it's side. I like the ceiling idea so as to free up more room, and it would be the warmest place in the room.
Sure would like to hear from some folks who have been storing them for years. Wouldn't want to wreck it, It's a runner! Thanks, KampKurz

Mark hanging the boat upside down is a good way to store it, I would not hang from transom handles, I would support the boat by the coamings, by hanging a 2x4 from the ceiling. see you next year

We are storing KT's hydro in the enclosed trailer, on bunks that stem from the transom to nose, about 24" apart.

Since it has been years since I have had anything to do with wood boats, I ask those who know more.
Is this a good, bad, correct, or incorrect way to store the boat, and, what would be considered the best way?

Works fine for me!! The ideal way to store a hydro is on it's side but leaving it on long bunks like you have is fine. Also, when transporting it is important not to over tighten the ropes. let the hydro 'float' a bit on the bunks to avoid twisting the boat while transporting!

Thanks, Matt! I was actually thinking of building some wedge blocks to fit the curve of the nose, and sliding them into that space, then using a nylon strap at front/back rather than the rope through the bow eye, but, one thing at a time!

Thanks Rich, anywhere along the coamings? I ask because my space is very limited and I have framing in the ceiling at a point that will fall very near the transom end of coamings.
By the way, I ran very well at the last two marathons at Big Rapids. It was nice to see you and yours at Grass Lake. Very much looking forward to seeing you at Top'O'.

Another good way is to stand the boat on it's transom straight up doesn't take much floor space.

Hanging a runabout

I hung my 70`s ASR Race Craft from the transom handles and bow eye sunny-side up, close to the ceiling of my garage from 1982 to about 6 months ago. The bottom is as straight as the day I hung it. It worked fine for me. Recently re-finished it, and hope to get it wet in the spring.

Bunk Storage

I store mine on bunks. Even for transportation to and from race course I have a 2 x 4 carpeted that is cut for the width of the bottom. I carpet this and slide it up under the nose until it touches the bottom. I then tie the boat down very secure. This prevents the "Hook" in the boat from straighting out. Granted it will not happen overnight but over time the wood will weaken and allow for some stretch and then you have leaking problems.

Simple, cheap and easy to do.

I have to tie my boat tight when transporting. When Im goin from across Manhatten from Queens midtown tunnel to Lincoln tunnel people like to get too close when Im at a red light.

Basement???

Having been from basement land, and relocated to the land of fruits and loonies.....These people know nothing of basements! Instead, we have the downstairs basement (the garage) and the upstairs basement, (the attic).

setting it out in the yard...That gives me a new concept for a flower bed!
