  • Maple Bay Marathon Oct. 11

Im just checking to see If marathon guys would be interested in getting together this weekend for a local marathon ride/race/get-together. If you guys wanna go for one last ride let me know....Everyone is welcome...If I get enough interest by mid week I will get the details worked out. This is meant to be a very casual get together and boat ride for fun. PM me or post here. All boats are welcome...Race boats, pleasure boats, jet skis. The plan here is to get new people interested in boat racing.

Sounds like a great idea! Especially the opening it up to pretty much any ride.
if we can get non racers running their stuff a few times, many would get the bug
part of me thinks we should have a sportsman's class or 2 in S.O. that runs once per weekend. they could use borrowed cut gear. run their fishing boats. bungee cord their throttles so they return to idle. run no more than x boats per heat.(to be determined by the course and what boats are there) and GET THEM HOOKED ON RACIN!
When we raced a Candlewick this summer there was a grudge match between 2 of the Candlewick people, the spectators loved it. and a slew of people came through the pits just after their race, all pumped up with enthusiasm.

Sounds like a great idea Nick. Veum and talked about doing this up in Brimley as well. I can't make it though. I have a Rugby game against Cincinnati in Cincinnati that weekend.

keep us posted on how it turns out.

            Maple Bay Marathon a go-go!!

Hey Nick, that sounds real cool. I would love to be there. Would we actually have a marathon(?), like maybe a run to the south end of the lake and then up to the north end and back around to Maple bay?
Either way, keep me up on it. Pat Whitman may be interested. If it goes, we could contact other drivers. Could be good. KampKurz

                    Maple Bay Marathon

Hey Nick, Pretty sure Pat Whitman will be there. I called Dave Umbarger and asked him to log on and check it out.
Can you think of anyone on your end of the Lake??? Blombergs, Paul F.?
Look forward to more posts on this awesome idea, just can't stand the idea of putting the rig away just yet.
Got laid off a couple weeks ago...been riding bikes and walking, etc. Sure wish I was building boats with my spare time.

                      Guys

Just so you know, Duck season opened this last weekend, you may have some duck boats out on the rivers and lakes. Just be nice to them and don't buzz them, it sure pisses us off. Bad enough the fishermen troll by at 75 yards out.

Hope y'all have a great time, sounds like a chilling good time ! Last Sat up in Grayling it was a balmy 31 degrees in the mornings.

Look out for Duck Hunters, you betcha!

Thanks Dave, I'm just a willing and enthusiastic participant, but I think we are talking about a parade lap around Burt Lake only, if that. I know a lot of us crazy Marathon types are hunters, so we will keep an eye out for our fellow fowlers. Well beyond 12 gauge range.
Either way, I hope it's a go. I just came from the west shore of Burt and there is a cool south-easter brewin'. Brrrr.
