Sidewinder update from PP

Well so far the racing weekend has started out rough. I can not make PP unless I get lucky and manage to get there for Sunday. Kevin Did take the B hydro and it looks like there will be enough for a class. Kevin will get his first ride in the B and his first run with the Sidewinder today.
He had a few issues in getting to the race. I got a call about 11pm last night. It was Kevin calling to ask if I had packed the spare tire for the trailer! OOPS I had not so he was broken down on 294 in the construction zone. Thanks to all that helped get a tire to him so he could get to PP!!
Heres hopeing today gos a little better for him.

Kevin, the boat, and the Sidewinder survived the race. sad to say the prop did not, lost a blade in the second heat. Motor ran well but after talking to Kevin I figured out we had a communications problem. He's settup was for the bsh prop. But he ran the prop I wanted him to test at about 1" deep. Kevin said he ended up about 1/4 lap back the other boats pulled him just a little in the starting shoot. My quess is he ran out of prop way to early. Also it looks like a little more carb tuning, mixture seems good low and midrange, but rich in the upper range.
He will run the bsh prop at 1/2" on Sunday.

You and Dudley should be commended for all of the research and information you are sharing. It is great to see the reports you guys are giving. You guys are making things a lot easier for the future Sidewinder owners.

Dudley, Kevin got his first taste of the B class. It sounds like he realy enjoyed it. ITs to bad I was not there to see it.

On sunday the Sidewinder was faster then it was on Saturday. Kevin said the BSH prop made a difference on speed. But the second heat was a bust. I think it was the second lap when he recieved a good dousing and road a rouster. The motor injested enough water that it stalled. And the boat had enough water into to prevent him from restarting it. He could not get back far enough to rope it.
Overall it was still a good weekend for Kevin. Im sure he had a big grin on his face after the first heat.

Look for some improvements from the Sidewinder before next season.
Be ready for some stiff competition in Burlington y'all

Just curious. Is the spray shield an issue with the sidewinder keeping the spray out of the carb? My experience in CSH is that you can get pretty wet at times. Just like to hear your thoughts on this

Both Dudley and Kevin seem to have had issues with Injesting water. I can not say I have experienced the issue. My quess is that with the carb on the outside of the motor it is more vulnerable to water spray hitting the starboard side of the boat as that is where the carb is. Currently I am running a HR spray sheild. Dudley seems to have curred his with a pvc elbow and some other water deflectors.
This issue should be solved well before next season. The in the works air box should allow a boat to get hosed down hard and not injest any water.

That would be nice to have a standardized spray shield that comes with the motor. I appreciate the update and getting the bugs worked out

And that is exactly what is going to happen. they should be getting built as we speak. Other then some minor carb adjustments that is the last peice of the Sidewinder puzzel. After the Air box is done and on the motor, some final carb tuning and this motor will Rock!

I'm sorry you weren't there Gene. Kevin did a great job with your rig. He was racing against some really tough competitors and did well. Thank you Gene.

When Eric K. closed the door at the exit of turn 2 on me. i rode up his rooster and spun out. I am not really sure if the motor took a drink then or not. I might of just been too late gettting back in the throttle and simply let the motor die. I could not find the bracket to put the micron in the boat. so I have no rpm data to share.
As Gene stated this was my maiden B voyage. So the first heat I took it pretty easy and let off a lot on the turns (I got to PP way to late on fri. to do any test rides ) YES i had a blast even with the bath and not being able to finish the second heat on sunday.
