Last year at Grass Lake, MI John Loomer, former BSR racer from the mid 60's and 70's decided to make a comeback in ASR. John had started attending some MHRA functions and was looking forward to retirement and a return to the sport that he missed. Following his ASR race John had a massive heart attack and left this world among friends doing something that he loved.
This years ASR race at Grass Lake will be dedicated to his memory. The combined heats from Saturday and Sunday race will decide a winner for the memorial race. The winner will receive a solid wood engraved plaque and a $400.00 Bulova watch. So ASR drivers pull out the good motor and prop for Grass Lake this year!
Additionally, it should be mentioned that Dori Loomer, John wife, dedicated his complete ASR rig to MHRA to recruit new racers. This contribution has sparked MHRA to start a “never ever” racer program along with a “new racer school” program to help draw people into the sport. Johns rig will be used Friday to test with four brand new potential racers in our first “racer school”!
Thank you to VanValkenburg jewelers for making the prize watch possible. The VanValkenburg family is truly one of the nicest racers in our sport!
