  • Sidewinder update from Dayton

I ran the Sidewinder at Dayton in AMH (250cc Mod Hydro) only because there was only one other BSH there. I got a scare in the first heat on Sat when the motor stopped suddenly about 3/4 of the way to the first turn. Several people came up up to see if I had stuck the motor or gear foot. Happily it was something much simpler, the kill switch connection was hanging over the transom and got hosed down by the water coming out of the side of the motor. Ended up acting just like I had pulled the kill switch. So any rumors of the motor's demise were greatly exaggerated. On the plus side with the nice run I had gotten I saw the best top speed yet (0.7 mph better than at the Nationals). For the 2nd heat I put on a new design airbox and dried out the kill switch connection. I didn't get a good run at the clock (had to back way off to try to stay legal, emphasis on try) but I saw a top speed equal to what I saw at Whitney Pt. when I got a good run at the clock there. I ended up jumping the gun and got a nothing for the day.

On Sunday we only got one heat because one of the Hot Rods died milling before the first heat (problem with only having 3 boats @ a record run event). Again I got a bad run @ the clock but did manage to stay legal. I saw speeds close to what I saw at Whitney Pt.

Brian Trolian ran the Sidewinder in BSR on Sunday and said he got a good ride. Hopefully he'll post something on that if anyone has questions about the motor on a runabout.

Looking forward to getting some testing in on Friday @ Lock Haven.

Also hope there are enough BSH so I can race on a more even footing.

    Thanks for the continued reports.

I heard a rumor that the Sidewinder 20 ran a little at Whitney Point. Any news on that motor? Is there somebody actively working on it like the 15?

      20 Sidewinder

The 20 was run @ Whitney Pt by John Runne. He may be running it again this weekend @ Lock Haven.
