  • APBA BOD Vote

    Personal message from Edward W. Hearn:

    I would encourage all of you to vote ONLY for Mark Wheeler and Buddy Tennell for APBA BOD. They are the only kneeldowners running for the APBA Board. While there are some very good other people also running for the Board and who also would be deserving of your vote, if you cast the remaining two votes you are so entitled, it could jeopardize the ability of Wheeler or Tennell to become elected to the Board. PM me if you need an explanation as to why this is the case. Ed.

    I absolutely agree with this strategy. Mark and Buddy understand our sport and will work to protect and further outboarding interests in addition to APBA as a whole.

      Explanation

      Since I have been asked, here is the explanation:

      Scenario 1:
      In the election where many members vote, three of the members who are kneeldowners vote for Wheeler, Tennell and Inboarder C. (ie: each of Wheeler, Tennell and Inboarder C get three votes from these three kneeldowners).

      Total Vote tally from all voters is:

      Inboarder A = 8 votes
      Inboarder B = 6 votes
      Inboarder C = 5 votes
      Tennell = 4 votes
      Wheeler = 3 votes

      The three inboarders and Tennell get elected but Wheeler does not if 4 seats are up for grabs.

      Now, Scenario 2:
      The three kneeldowners only vote for Wheeler and Tennell and NOT for Inboarder C (ie: Wheeler and Tennell still get three votes each from these three voters but Inboarder C gets none).

      Total vote tally from all voters:

      Inboarder A = 8 votes
      Inboarder B = 6 votes
      Tennell = 4 votes
      Wheeler = 3 votes
      Inboarder C = 2 votes

      Thus, the effect of the three kneeldowners each casting a third vote for Inboarder C means that, instead of just getting two votes (as in Scenario 2), Inboarder C gets 5 votes and jumps from last place in the election to third place. This, in turn, bumps Wheeler out.

      This is very real and can cause you to elect someone who may have been your third or fourth choice when your first and second choices don't get elected. Ironically, it is by casting YOUR extra votes, that YOUR preferred candidates don't get elected.

      The point is this: if you definitely want one or two people to get elected in an election which will take many, you should only vote for the people you definitely want to see get elected and save the rest of your votes. As the example above shows, your extra votes may actually cause the people you want, not to be elected. Ed.

        Eddie,
        Now I know why you are the lawyer and the rest of us are not!!!!LOL Thanks for the explanation, but understanding this is above my "pay grade."

        As Ed says, vote for Mark and Buddy and forget it.

          Mark and Buddy

          I need to start this post by stating I will be voting for Mark and Buddy only.

          That said, I would like to hear what and how they believe APBA can be improved. Personally, I think out Website is not up to par? Is it designed for the members or sponsors or to attract new racers? I do not think it does any well. Has anyone tried to edit a sanction in the last three years. I really would like to see some of our budget allocated towards an IT strategy that will serve us better on all levels.

          Less discussion on helmet colors, more discussion on how APBA can improve as an organization. I would vote for anyone from any category that would openly lobby for these improvements.

          Two cents,
          Dean Sutherland

            Good post Dean you are right on the mark regarding the APBA web site, it lacks punch! and is a bit to static this is not the way to attract generation X into the sport this is what the most generation X folks are used to.

                Ed that was complicated as He!!

                Why not say it the easy way and say vote for the 2 knell down guys recommended. if you vote for any others, it is a vote against the 2 knell down guys. Only vote for these 2. Two votes only, you do not have to vote for 4.

                  Dean,

                  Decent post, and if those condidates can convince me to vote for them I will. Vote for the one you feel will do the best job. Don't cast your vote then ask them what they can do for you.

                  I agree, helmet color discussion got carried away, but I was trying to poke some fun at the 99s and suddenly it got heated. All is good as we usually email off this site anyways.

                    Dean, you are on the council at large, aren't you? And doesn't the council at large advise the board? And isn't IT kind of your thing? Do you have any ideas that you could present at the next council at large meeting?

                    And by the way, I support that Wheeler guy also.

                        Well, the Hagerl family voted, and today our ballots were returned. It looks like the address on the envelopes sent with the ballots apparently had the wrong address. Perhaps they were OLD. Our envelopes have a Roseville, MI address. The stamp on the return states NO such street Unable to forward. We never looked - just cast our ballots, signed and sent in the envelope provided. I wonder how many others received the same envelopes????? Check your envelopes before you send your ballot.
