  • Disqualification - Should Be told to Driver

I've been tossed at some races the last three seasons and some I don't know about until I see my points posted on APBA standings. One race up North, I got a third, I thought after inspection I would have a second because a driver was too light. I must have placed fourth, I still don't know if I jumped the gun, chopped someone, displaced a marker or all three together!

We should let drivers know by the PA or something. ( Example: 11J has been disqualified for a driving issue) Sometimes the inspection does not get results for a while or they are busy. Sometimes a driver may want to talk about the issue.

Any input would be welcome, I'm always trying to learn.

    Earl-

My only advise to you is to stop cheating!

I agree...that has happened to me at more than a couple of races. Scoring errors do happen and our scorers are working hard to get it right. Sometimes they make mistakes, but they eventually get it right in the end. It would be nice to know early but at some events like nationals or a record race there is a lot going on. I don't know if there's much we could do about it right now, except be patient.

Exactly. If there was a DQ the driver did not know about, how could it be appealed?

Not to bring up old stuff, but....This happened to us earlier in the year. The race committee let us run 2 full heats without so much as a warning, then told KT we were DQed at the end of the day (both heats, cost of $160.00) because the scorers could not read her numbers....

There must have been so many other boats that looked like hers they could not tell....

There should be pre checks before the race in regard to any discretionary rules, such as helmet colors, number size, the rule book is very clear until you dive into it a few pages later and the discretionary zinger hits you upside the head.

One thing we did to rectify that is made sure KT does her parade lap by the judges stand spraying them full of water (kidding on the last part).

Now, i tried to post on helmet colors, but Dan wanted to talk about some other time...So, I'll add, the rule says, International orange, Orange, yellow, or Safety Red on helmets....

So, read the manufacturers labels on the paint colors, and some call Safety red, what resembles Rosea, or Neon Pink.

I almost think it is a race committee thing. Some committees call the DQ over the PA, others do not. Then, there are those unsung heros, the judges, scorers, referees and numerous volunteers, who, thankfully step up. They can only do ten things at once, as soon as you give them 11, that may be where the DQ's slip through the cracks.

Bill, the rule book is pretty clear. If a racer is uncertain, they have the burden to ask ahead of time ... not the other way around.

I understand Sam. In this case, there was no uncertainty, the measurements were what they were. So, lesson learned, we make changes.
