  • Proposed NEW Stock Outboard Class

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen--the wave of the future.

Mark Evans of Chelan, WA is developing a new ride which could be great for Stock Outboard.

The hull: 28 feet long, 13 feet wide. Carbon Fiber. Reinforced cockpit (from A-6 Intruder jet) to seat 4 passengers. Driver stands in the engine well and drives with head sticking up through the former turbine air intake scoop.

    Power: Two 225 HP Mercs

    Speed: 70-80 mph.

No word yet on what kind of rings you can run in the Mercs.

Imagine the mayhem that would ensue with a dozen of these babies hitting the first turn twelve abreast.

I believe John Runne's Steering Committee needs to look at this!

Reminds me of the Texmo M.O.T.H. (multi outboard tunnel hull) days.

        Pat,

Is this a Mercury only class? Or can we run the Tohatsu? If yes, is this class going to get beat up just like the D-Class did with so many new rules? I suppose since it has two motors, it would be twice as bad?

One Merc 44 is the same thing as 2 Tohatsu motors.Joke. Couldnt the sport use a few more foreign motor classes? NOT a joke.

                      Outboard unlimited

I was at Pasco and watched that thing "run" up the river..lol. I think 70 mph is a stretch, and without a turn fin it sure had problems making it around the course. Looks like a total waste of money to me.

                        Moth

Oh yeah..is the Moth at the hydro museum in Kent? I thought for sure I saw it in the side lot. Did it ever qualify for a race? What size were the motors?

                              Moth

On a related subject....there is a large catameran hull sitting in the water on Lake Union in downtown Seattle. The boat looks like it is about 35 feet long, and has three (3) OMC V8 outboards on the back. The owner of the marina said it has not been run in years, but that the boat owner said it would do well over 90 mph. I will go there some afternoon and take some pictures. If memory serves me correct, OMC would not sell the motor to just anybody, you had to have a special license or something along those lines to buy one. And, I also think they put out in the neighborhood of 300 hp each. I could be wrong though. Dave
