  • Old Camden Nc Race Site

Here is the old race site in Camden NC. The road is paved, and the place is landscaped. The old pits are just a memory.

I bet the snakes are still there and the water is still brown.

            Miss the site

I always liked to go to Camden NC. It was my favorite site by far. Southern hospitality is the best and the seafood wasn't bad either. The brown water was different, but the rooster tails still were wet.

you had to be careful there

you had to be careful there. you didn't know if it was the starting gun going off or someone on the starting pier shooting a snake in the water.

sam, i'll take the brown water over hte green water at cox point in essex, md. across from the eternal flame of essex, the sewer treatment plant.

              oh the memories. all good.

Only a few snakes got shot!

The rest would be collected by Gary pond and he'd take them back to is camper. Later Gary would drag a basket of snake-pets to the campfire, start playing his flute and the snakes would rise outta the basket doing that snake-dance wiggly thing! It was amazing. Yep, Gary Pond, never met a snake he didn't like. At least that's how I recall it, but there was alcohol involved
