  • Marathon boat question

I'm rigging a CSR for the Top O' and I would like to know where to place the turn fins on the bottom, both distance from the transom and distance from the keel.

    thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,

I would think for a CSR you would only mount one on center on the bottom of the boat. make sure it is about 3 - 3 1/2 inches tall. Its what we use in DSR. I normally start with it located about the same distance as where the throttle lines up as you are looking from the side of the boat. Make sure it is in line with the keel (right Jeff 55V?) Then test, test, test. Right & Left. Adding chine fins will help also. You can make these yourself out of angle aluminum.

    Hope that helps.

      Bill,
I mount mine rear of fin 30" foward from the back of the bottom, offset to the left 1/3. This is the same as my competition boat. Never had any problems turning right. I have tried it in the center of the boat but I had problems when doing a flat turn to the right, moved the fin back to the left, problem went away. This works for me, I'm there other setups that work well for them.

Bill has seen enough of my driving to know better than to ask me for setup tips.
I'm a great example of what NOT to do.

I was curious, how many gallons of gas do you burn on Top O with a Yamato?

hmmm… it depends on how far you plan on going.

For Saturday: it’ll take about a quart to make it to the Pinehurst and/or Inn Between… or about a gallon to make it to Breakers… and after that you’re in for a long all. I figure 2 to 2 ½ gallons will get you the Hack-Ma-Tack up in Cheboygan. At that point, you can usually get someone to tow you back or pick you up in the morning. If you plan on running the whole course, I think you’ll be good with about 4 to 4 ½ gallons and two bags of ice taped to your knees.

Sunday: This is a tough day cause it’s a long hall to your first “break down point”, and your head and knee’s are still pounding from Saturday’s “race”. Your best bet is to carry about 4 to 4 ½ gallons, 800mg of Motrin and look for specters along the banks of the rivers or in pleasure boats. They’re usually holding the basic essentials placed in coolers and bikini tops. I personally prefer to look for the groups with nice “scenery” to “run out of gas”. Again, you can usually hitch a ride back or just get picked up in the morning.

I hope this helps with you preparations!

Take care and god bless us all

                  Josh

I have used two fins one on right one on the left . split the difference from the keel.
