NBRA pushes gun jumpers back 1 lap if the jump is "within 10 seconds of the official start" which is when the clock hits zero. This is to preclude someone from jumping by an amount that would give enough time to make up the lap penalty. While the system has worked well over the years that it has been used in NBRA, it, sometimes, causes some confusion on the judges stand, especially when there is a full field. The scorers have to really be on the ball. It's a good system and makes it so you at least go home with something if you should jump.

i agree with low boat count being aproblem for certain classes - could open a big can of beans and say we have way to many classes and let cut some of them and get full fields every where - what does the average race run now - 16 classes?

Problem is recently a lot of people complain when you combine classes as there are then too many boats on the water - i love a 10 -12 boat heat - feels like racing - been a while since i've been in one anywhere though. I'll take elims every week, those were the good old days.

The problem with the current points as i see it it is a skewed system on how hard it is to win a race - anyone - regardless of where you are has races that are easier to win as the competition just isn't there in that class - all regions have classes that have more competitive boats in another, we are all based on on the same max of race days for the total points. if you go for a points title and want to drive somewhere else to try and pick up easy point rather than go to the big race where all the hot guys are, than that is your choice. what the bonus points do is help the guy that has 12 boats every weekend fight for his 4th place and give him (and everyone else in that heat) a few extra points for the effort. Most people would agree that winning in a 4 or 5 boat heat is a lot easier than placing in a 12 boat heat. It is the only way to balance out the fields when you have that problem in my mind.
I'd still rather stick to the normal points and see 12 boats on the water. also hate showing up to the race and seeing 2 bots sitting on the beach as there is no one to fill the class. happens all the time.

          Kev,

I can assure you that was not the intention to reduce the number of classes in this thread.

I'll pick on my own kids in this example.... what I think they are saying...Not that I think they were pointing a finger at us. I think they are just saying in general small fields where ever they are.

Donny runs agains 5 boats in CSH and wins he gets 400 points. Guy in the west coast wins agains 14 CSH....is it fair they get the same points? What it does not take into consideration is maybe those 5 boats are some of the best in the country? Allen, Swain, Hemp, Burdick, Whoever is driving Mike Pavlick rig....tuff field (even though I think we are off a little)

If a given driver has above average skills, does his/her homework, and maintains top flight equipment, the points they earn will take care of themselves. The cream always rises to the top. If a driver falls short in any of these areas no change in point structure is going to save them. There were probably some very good reasons for establishing the point system we race under and if it worked for the last 50 years it will still work now.

                How About

Offering points up for sale ? Would elimnate the need to travel and the biggest pocket book would still win.

I would gladly sell 400 points for a grand.

                  I agree with Sam.
I think the "easy" national points somewhat helps make up for the other times a driver travels 6 hours to a race only to find he's the only one in that class there!

Also, The problem is not too many classes. The problem is too few boats. If a person complains about long boring race days filled with four boat heats, Said person could suggest to their race comittee that no heats be run with less than 6 boats. See how far that goes. $
